Ric’s son Leo has died of a heroin overdose and it is the day of the funeral. Ric cannot think of anything else and tries to clear his head. To everyone’s surprise he arrives at Holby when he should be at home but he wants to be some use and can attend the funeral later in the day.

Ric attends to a young boy who has recently had a kidney transplant. The boy’s new kidney is being rejected and he must be operated on as soon as possible. Ric attends theatre, looking at the clock, its Leo’s funeral and he isn’t there.

Faye is looking at wedding locations when Jac walks in on her and discovers that Faye has a secret plan to have a quiet non-Byrne wedding. Jac tells Faye she knows a great place to have the wedding, if she is after a small location, Faye isn’t interested in anything Jac has to say and dismisses her.

Donna is aiming to please everyone after realising that she wants something more from Holby- she wants to be a scrub nurse. Maria teases her as she is being incredibly efficient as well as being nice to everyone- this is not the Donna that we know.

Ric manages to get to the funeral, but it’s too late and he misses it. Leo’s aunt Amber isn’t pleased and there is tension between them anyway as Ric and Amber haven’t talked since Ric left India (her sister) for Lola. Amber can’t keep her feelings hidden anymore and she blames Ric for Leo’s death. Amber claims he was too busy chasing his next woman to be a good father to Leo.

Joseph receives a telephone call from someone giving him information about a wedding location that includes a cheap room and a bouncy castle. Neither Joseph nor Faye had rung them . It was Jac meddling. Joseph confronts Faye asking why she is thinking of having the wedding in some tacky location when he wants it near his country house so that they can accommodate the hundred guests. Faye denies making the enquiry but says that she doesn’t want a big wedding as everyone will be looking at her as it is her fourth marriage and she has a child that she hasn’t told anyone about.

Ric heads back to Holby and goes straight to see Jayne. He’s made a decision - he’s resigning. Jayne is stunned – she was just going to offer him the Chief of Surgery Job but Ric doesn’t want it. Jayne’s not going to try to get Ric to change his mind, but the job’s there if he wants it. Jayne needs his help with the Tan family and she talks him through the dilemma. They’ve got the funding from Randal, but can she really accept money from him with all the child neglect cases he is responsible for? The solution comes to Ric - why doesn't she accept the money via the Holby nightcare charity and then filter it through to the con-joined twins op . No one would be any the wiser.

Maria is sent an email from a stranger who claims to be a relative of a young girl she treated. Maria shows Donna the e-mail – she wants to know what Donna would do. Donna teases her about having a secret admirer. Maria takes the teasing for a while but then says seriously what should she do? Donna says don’t bother, he’s bound to be a stalker. Maria thinks about the e-mail for the rest of her shift before replying to it just before she leaves.

Eventually, Faye and Joseph talk about what sort of wedding they will have and manage to come to a compromise – what’s important is that they get to be together – in fact Joseph pretty much agrees to go along with all Faye’s plans –it’s just going to take him a while to get used to not doing things the Byrne way.

Faye thanks Jac for her little plan to try and cause trouble but Jac says she has no idea what she is talking about. Faye tells her that she and Joseph are closer than ever and that they have realised how to have the perfect wedding. Jac isn’t impressed but Faye walks away.

Later on, the Korean father , Mr Tan, sees Ric. He wants to thank him and say how grateful he is but also that he’s sad that Ric is leaving. Mr Tan talks to him father to father and says that he’s sorry for intruding on Ric's grief. When he hears Ric plans to leave the hospital, he says he mustn't - his twins will die without Ric. Ric sees Jayne and agrees to stay at Holby with his main aim being to bring Keller into the 21st Century.
