Fortunately Joseph and Linden are freed when the father of the child they saved tells Denion T to let them go. They race back to the car to make a quick escape, but find it has been trashed. Linden realises this is turning into a journey to hell, and Joseph is still frustrating him. One minute Joseph hates Faye, and the next, he’d die for her.

They go back to the apartment and decide to search for clues. Joseph finds a laptop with a calendar appointment for the following day – Archie, 11.30am, DKH. They realise DKH is the local hospital, as earlier the young girls father had said she was doing ok and being looked after there. They decide to hold fort for the rest of the day and head to DKH the next morning.

They wander to the beach and Linden questions Joseph’s issue with trust. Joseph explains he feels Faye has played him since he met her in Dubai. He doesn’t even now know if she did actually push James down the stairs any more. Additionally, how can he ever trust anyone after what Jac did to him? Linden sees his point, but also sees the pain in Jac’s eyes. She’s missing something, like he himself is. Linden goes onto tell Joseph that he lost his wife Olivia, and his daughter ten years ago in a road traffic accident. He has never let anyone drive him since, as he feels guilty every day for not driving the car that crashed. If he hadn’t had a drink he would have been driving and they would still be alive. Today was the first time he’d ever trusted anyone else with his life in a car.

Joseph thinks Linden is wrong to feel guilty and blame himself - it was an accident and accidents happen. That’s why people pray for a doctor, not God. But Linden doesn’t agree. He sees his life as a stepping-stone to a better place and God has given him this extended time to make a difference. He made the wrong choice by drinking that day.

It is then that Linden realises he has another big choice to make – and it can only go in one direction – betrayal.

They awake the following morning and find a home video of Faye in the DVD player. As they watch, they discover Archie is actually Faye’s son, not another husband. He is in a care home, Greenlands, as is obviously very sick. As this revelation occurs, they get a call from Faye. She is being held by Gavin and Johnny Boy at Table Mountain, so they head straight there. Linden starts to doubt his actions and wants Joseph to go alone, he can’t believe betrayal – it seems – is what fate had in mind for him.

They receive a second call from Faye who tells them to meet her at Signal Hill instead. As they arrive they find her unharmed with the two boys. Linden can’t believe they have finally found her, after being shot at, beaten up, robbed and chased. He also can’t believe Joseph greats Faye like it was his Grandmother.

As Linden stands back to watch, Faye explains to Joseph that she had come to Cape Town looking for Lucas, her ex-husband she had divorced ten years ago. He had taken their son Archie away and promised she could see him if she came to South Africa. But on arrival Faye was kidnapped, as Johnny Boy and Gavin were on strict instruction to just keep her out of the way until told otherwise. Joseph explains that they had been to the apartment and thought they would find her at RKH for Archie’s scheduled appointment that morning. It is then that Faye realises why she had been kidnapped: Lucas had taken Archie away from Greenlands and to Cape Town for an operation; an operation she didn’t want him to have.

Archie has Lowe Syndrome which is why he is cared for at Greenlands. Faye had used the money she was given from Donald Hewson to pay for his care and treatment. Donald had loved Archie like a son and always wanted to help. Archie had however developed a coronary ventricular fistula, but the UK doctors believed it too risky to operate on him due to his Lowe Syndrome. Lucas had never taken an interest in Archie since his birth, so Faye had never told him about his illness. When Lucas found out, he decided he wanted to give Archie a better life and risk him having the operation. She explains she had never wanted to lie or hurt Joseph, but didn’t want him to be involved. She had lied to protect what they had.

Johnny Boy and Gavin let Faye go, tired of being Lucas’s run around. Linden drives Faye and Joseph to the hospital in hope of finding Archie before it is to late, but he is already in theatre when they arrive. The three confront Lucas who says he just wants the best for his boy. Faye finds this hard to believe since he hadn’t seen him in ten years. Lucas realises his decision has been rash and apologises. Linden however confronts him with the truth, telling him he’d taken Archie to take his mind off the real problem: that his partner, the fashion designer, had died of AIDS. Linden knows a lot about mental displacement and realises Lucas felt betrayed on two fronts: he’d had another relationship, and also that he’d left him alone. Linden explains to Lucas that taking away someone else’s child will not change anything. Even if the operation is a success, Archie will always have severe problems.

Faye runs off upset, and Joseph follows. Linden is left feeling agitated. Faye’s boy is dying, his parents are fighting and more importantly, Archie’s doctors were seriously struggling in theatre. Linden knows he is no cardiothoracic surgeon, but Joseph is. He needed to make things right. Rushing out to find Joseph, Linden tells him there is a big problem.

They go back to the viewing gallery and discover Archie has a bleed. He is in serious trouble and needs a miracle. With some encouragement, Joseph jumps in to try and save Archie. In a moment of panic, he remembers the hemostate powder Connie had used to stop the bleed in Mr Priestley. Taking it out and using it made Joseph the hero of the day.

Lucas apologises to Faye saying he was wrong for taking Archie and was sorry. She accepts his apology and says she never wanted any wrong. She’d never told him about Archie’s Lowe Syndrome as she thought he was happy with his life in South Africa, so didn’t need to know the full truth. Even if he did break her heart, she never wanted to hurt him.

Linden was relieved Archie was ok, but still couldn’t take his eye’s off Faye – in her relief she looked more beautiful than ever. Faye thanked Linden for everything. She knew Joseph would never have come if it hadn’t been for him. They share a moment and Linden tells Faye about his daughter Holly. She isn’t dead, he had just told Joseph that to stop him asking questions. Holly is alive and living with her grandparents, but he never sees her. He can’t bear to look at her, as all he sees is Olivia. He can’t get over it and so it’s easier not to see her, as he believes he’d ruin the life she has by being too controlling – it wouldn’t be fair.

In a strange way Linden realises both him and Faye share the same type of pain, maybe that’s why he’s just told her all? But he also knows that telling Faye about Holly has crossed the line – he thought he could include Faye in his life, but he can’t. He knew what he wanted, after all, why was he there? It was purely selfish. Linden wanted to be with Faye; he wanted to save her; he wanted to be the hero.

The priest asks Linden if he has spoken to Joseph since betraying him, but Linden asks why? He hasn’t betrayed Joseph. His sin is that he has betrayed Olivia – his wife.
