A new two part ITV documentary series 'Dangerous Dogs' is to look at the rise in the number of graphic dog attacks, and the devestating consequences that come along with that.

Following those dog wardens who are on the front line, the show will explore just what kind of environments and owners create a dangerous dog, and in the below clip we can see Kelly Evans and her assistant from Birmingham City Council rescue an abandoned, dangerous Japanese Akita dog.

The 'devil dog' headlines will be looked at, and the root cause of these dogs will be looked at as the dog wardens candidly talk about some of the most horrific cases they've encountered.

During the making of this series alone, three UK residents were killed by dogs. More than 6,000 people were hospitalised following dog attacks in 2013.

This is reflected in rescue centres which are now overrun with dogs that people no longer want to care for.

In 2012 alone, 4,000 convictions were secured by the RSPCA against dog owners, who underfeed, abandon and mistreat their pets.

Suranne Jones narrates.

Dangerous Dogs starts Thursday, March 20 at 9pm on ITV.
