Cheryl Cole has been welcomed onto the cobbles of Coronation Street, for a special VIP visit to raise money for ITV's Text Santa.

In an exclusive storyline which will see the pop sensation arrive in Weatherfield, Cheryl will be searching for her childhood friend Tina McIntyre and heads straight to the Rovers Return.

Expecting to collect Tina and travel to Newcastle for a Christmas party, plans go awry.

Simon Gregson, Kym Marsh and Andy Whyment will all also appear in the special as their regular characters Steve, Michelle and Kirk.

On taking part, Cheryl said: “It (Coronation Street) has always been part of my life, we’d all watch it as kids every night. It’s surreal to be part of something I’ve watched my whole life. It’s great to be able to support six wonderful charities and I really hope that this year’s appeal makes a difference to many lives.”

Text Santa is presented by a whole host of famous faces - Ant and Dec, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby and Christine Bleakley with Paddy McGuinness - and promises to be a star-studded entertainment event.

Money will be raised for six UK based charities - Age UK, Barnardo's, BeatBullying, the British Heart Foundation, CLIC Sargent and Help the Hospices - with guest celebrities exploring moving stories and true-life films for each.

The show airs on ITV at 8pm on Friday, December 20.
