Jupiter’s Legacy has only been on Netflix a day, and it’s already making pretty sizable waves. With the show being similar to the streaming service’s show The Umbrella Academy, in the sense that it follows a dysfunctional family, this one seems to be its own unique story.
The series’ focus is more pointed towards a collision between generations, and appears to be an action-packed show with hard-hitting moments as well as some humour thrown in.
Here is a guide to the main characters within the series, so you know who’s who when you begin watching Jupiter’s Legacy.
Sheldon Sampson/The Utopian
Played by Josh Duhamel, Sheldon is the head of the Sampson family and one of the founding members of the superhero team the Union; he also led the family on an excursion that left the family with powers.
The Utopian’s powers are very similar to the DC hero Superman, as he has inhuman strength and flight. In addition to these, he also obtained telekinesis which he passed on to his son Brandan (Andrew Horton).
Sheldon is an old-fashioned fella, which seems to be the cause of some rifts between the family.
Grace Kennedy Sampson/Lady Liberty
Another founding member of the Union, Grace (Leslie Bibb) is Sheldon’s wife and her alias, Lady Liberty, has invulnerable powers along with super strength.
Grace and Sheldon’s two children are second generation superheroes, and she sometimes finds it difficult to raise Chloe (Elena Kampouris) and Brandon while simultaneously keeping her husband’s idealism in check.
Walter Sampson/Brainwave
Ben Daniels stars as Walter Sampson, Sheldon’s older brother and yet another founding member of the Union.
Walter can fly like his brother, but the rest of his abilities are all mental; hence his superhero name, Brainwave.
This character can do something rather dark with his powers called a ‘mind painting’, which involves telepathically separating someone’s mind from their body – maybe it’s best to stay on Walter’s good side.
He can also induce aneurysms to anyone (except Sheldon, who is immune), making him a rather deadly opponent.
Walter prefers direct action when resolving issues, unlike his brother who would rather simply set a good example.
Brandon Sampson/Paragon
Son of Sheldon and Grace, Brandon (Horton) is a second-generation superhero who despises living in his parents’ shadow.
Having abandonment issues and feeling like he lives under his father has led Brandon to be influenced by his uncle, Walter.
Brandon’s powers are telekinesis which enables him to fly, avoid being sucked into the vacuum of space, and lift objects that are immensely heavy.
Chloe Sampson
Chloe (Kampouris), sister to Brandon Sampson and daughter to Sheldon and Grace, shares the same frustration her brother does in regard to being in her parents’ shadows.
While she does have powers of her own, including a sonic scream, Chloe decided not to follow into the family business.
Chloe prefers to party and get involved with charity work; she also doesn’t date boys with powers and instead casts her eye to the bad boys, including a supervillain’s drug-dealing son.
George Hutchence/Skyfox
Played by Matt Lanter, George’s superhero powers consist of flight and super strength, and utilises many gadgets and technology to get the job done.
Sheldon and George used to be close allies, but a disagreement led to a falling out and the two now consider themselves enemies; Skyfox became a political activist and supervillain.
He is also the father of Chloe’s boyfriend, Hutch (Ian Quinlan).
Hutch Hutchence
Unlike the Sampson children, Hutch (Quinlan) did not inherit any powers from his father.
He does, however, have a power rod which give the impression of superpowers and serves to transport himself and any others to any destination he can name.
Hutch’s rod also emits a beam which can knock anyone down – including superhumans.
While he didn’t grow up with his villainous father, he has decides to follow him now; he even leads his own gang.
Fitz Small/The Flare
Played by Mike Wade, Fitz Small is yet another founding member of the Union.
The Flare also has super strength and can fly; he can also emit high energy beams.
After Fitz’s retirement from the Union (a plot point from the comics), his daughter Petra (Tenika Davis), who becomes the second Flare; this is a slight deviation from the aforementioned source material.
Petra Small/Flare II
Petra Small (Davis) takes over from her father Fitz, after he retired from the Union.
Petra’s powers are the same as her father’s, probably due to the fact that she inherited her powers from him.
If Petra’s story is the same as in the comics (Petra would have been Peter if the source material stuck), then she will resent her father for having an affair with a teenager; adding yet another possibility for tension.
Doctor Richard Conrad/Blue Bolt
Played by David Julien Hirsh, Conrad is the lone-founding member of the Union.
Next to nothing is known about his character as he wasn’t featured (in costume) in promotions for the show.
It seems the only way to learn who Blue Bolt is and what his powers are, is to watch the series…
