The premiere date for Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror season 5 is just two weeks away and if we weren't giddy enough about the forthcoming episodes, three separate trailers along with episode titles and details have just dropped. Here's what we know so far...
Smithereens
Andrew Scott plays a cab driver with something on his mind. He has a bee in his bonnet about society's obsession with mobile phones, which leads him to hit national headlines when he holds a passenger (Damson Idris) hostage at gunpoint. Meanwhile, he's been listening to what sounds like some kind of guided meditation, possibly initiated by Topher Grace's character.
Rachel, Jack And Ashley, Too
Rachel (Angourie Rice) is a teenage girl with very few friends, a sister named Jack (Madison Davenport) and a huge obsession with an international pop superstar named Ashley O (Miley Cyrus). She's desperate to connect with this world-famous icon, and indeed she can when Ashley goes to the next level of merchandising by introducing a wireless bot named Ashley 2.
It sounds and acts just like the real thing - if only the real thing WAS the real thing. Ashley O's life isn't the perfect world it appears and it looks like the bot is starting to become more and more real to dramatic (and sometimes comedic) effect.
Striking Vipers
The official synopsis describes how "two estranged college friends reunite in later life, triggering a series of events that could alter their lives forever". It's not especially descriptive, but the official episode trailer does see a man and a woman (Anthony Mackie and Nicole Beharie) apparently trying for a baby, though its obvious they are no longer connecting like they used to.
At a party, the man's pal brags about a new romantic interest, and later we see the man using a small chip that looks remarkably like the 'grain' in season 1's The Entire History of You. Could he be secretly re-living his past behind his wife's back?
Black Mirror season 5 will air on Netflix on June 5, 2019.
