If you’re true crime obsessed, you’ll probably have already binged on the Crime Junkie podcast - and if you haven’t, then you should.
Why? Well, it featured as our first ever podcast of the week - and we spoke to Ashley Flowers who hosts the show - so you should definitely check that out by clicking here…
But we wanted to take a look at seven cases covered by Crime Junkie that left us totally confused and fully body chills…
Sneha Philip
The missing person case of Sneha Philip remains a mystery, but a frustrating one. It’s almost like she vanished into thin air.
Ash and Brit tell the story of Sneha - a married woman living in New York. Out of nowhere she goes missing, and as if this wasn’t bad enough, her friends and family are left in despair as it’s the day before the 9/11 attacks - meaning help from emergency services is extremely limited.
We don’t get much closure on this case, and are left wondering what on earth happened to Sneha. Did she choose to disappear? Or did someone do something to her? Or did she actually get caught up in the 9/11 attacks?
Austin Yogurt Shop Killer
When four girls were brutally murdered at a Texas yogurt shop back in 1991, the chances of solving the case were put at a major disadvantage due to the fact that the place was set alight, and therefore a lot of the incriminating evidence and DNA were destroyed.
With a lot of back and forth, this one is not for the faint hearted. What happened to those poor girls is something you can only imagine in your worst nightmares, so prepare for full body chills throughout this episode.
Asha Degree
There are many words we could use to describe this case, but the most fitting one is definitely bizarre.
The 9-year-old from North Carolina disappeared on February 14 2000, in the middle of the night. From what it seems, little Asha just got up and left home by herself. Her parents (like the rest of us) were left with a lot of questions - like where did she go? Why did she go? How did she leave?
Oklahoma Girl Scouts
Another one which is chilling from start to finish - probably because it’s such a brutal murder on such young innocent victims. These poor girls went on a camping weekend and expected a few nights of fun and excitement, but instead, they met a terrible fate.
This episode was the first episode I listened to, and I’ve listened to it again since 4 or 5 times. It’s one that really stuck with me - most likely because I remember being a girl guide when I was younger and going away on these types of weekends - so I felt it personally.
As well as being very creepy and frightening, more than anything this story is really sad.
Chandra Levy
The story of Chandra Levy ticks every Crime Junkie box. Mysterious disappearance? Check. Political scandal? Check. A secret that nobody knows and now nobody will ever find out and we are all left forever wondering what that secret was? Check.
The only thing that we are missing is a conclusive answer to exactly who killed Chandra, and why.
This is a very thought-provoking case, because there are so many potential things that could’ve happened to Chandra. Had there been just a little bit more information, perhaps we'd have a lot more answers. Every time you think you know who is responsible, some more information is introduced that completely turns your thinking on its head.
Herb Baumeister
Don’t. Listen. To. This. Episode. Before. Bed.
I made this mistake, and can confirm it’s not easy to relax after.
With lots of talk about creepy mannequins… posed around a dimly lit swimming pool… in a house on a 15 acre estate in the middle of nowhere… You can probably tell the kind of vibe that this episode has.
Again, the story is told by Ash and Brit in a very engaging way, maybe too engaging, a little bit scarred...
Amy Lynn Bradley
If you’re due to go on a cruise ship holiday soon, you might want to leave this episode until you get back.
This case will leave your head absolutely screwed. You can’t help but feel awfully sad for the family, and if you believe the theory of what happened to Amy to be true, it won't sit well with you.
Personally, I had to listen to this episode twice, to fully digest all the information. There are many twists and turns, and what’s so baffling is that this all went down on a cruise ship - where we go to have fun and escape worries. It’s truly awful that instead of making memories, the family came back from this holiday without a daughter, a lifetime of loss, and so many unanswered questions.
If - like me - you've managed to listen to all of these free episodes three times over, don't forget there's a back log of a whole load more on Patreon. Subcribe and support your girls Ash and Brit over there!
