With the 'death' of Arrow coming in at the end of the show's third season, fans of the series are expecting some pretty major changes this time around when the popular comic book adaptation returns to the small screen.

Now we're close to finding out just what's about to go down, we've decided to take a look at absolutely everything we know about where the show's headed.

Where did we leave off?

The League of Assassins were extremely prominent in the third season of Arrow, with Oliver Queen even being killed off by Ra's al Ghul in the middle of the season, leaving fans across the world shocked and hesitant to see if he would ever return. Luckily, with a little bit of luck and some very good friends, Oliver was back on his feet in no time, but his surviving the blade of Ra's meant that the leader of the League would want Oliver to be trained as his successor.

So, was Oliver going to enjoy living life as Ra's whilst surrounding by his family and friends? Of course not. If he did indeed take up the mantle, he would be forced to cut off all contact with those he loved the most and be brainwashed and reborn, moulded into a soldier fit to take on the responsibility of the League. Though he handed himself over to Ra's to save those around him, Oliver's plan was to take him down from the inside, and he did a pretty darn good job with the help of Malcolm Merlyn, Team Arrow and The Flash.

With Ra's intent on destroying Starling City, Oliver had to once more fight him, and this time he came off better, ending Ra's life and taking his ring, meaning he could lead the League of Assassins however he pleased. However, what viewers discovered towards the end of the finale is that he had a deal with Malcolm, who would help him in his efforts in exchange for the title of Ra's al Ghul. Now Malcolm leads the League of Assassins, and Nyssa al Ghul is NOT happy.

Someone else dealing with a lot of crap in the final few minutes was Ray Palmer. Whilst trying to save the city he loved, the Palmer Technologies building and sign exploded whilst he was still in the compound. Though we know he can't be dead forever due to his inclusion in DC's Legends of Tomorrow, this could spell the end for his time on this series.

What we also saw was the evolution of Oliver Queen. He's no longer The Arrow - that's somebody who's been laid to rest courtesy of Roy - and so when we catch up with the former playboy in our new season we'll see a very different hero altogether, but one more recognisable...

Where do things go from here?

As mentioned, Oliver has changed. He's no longer the Arrow, but will in fact be taking on the role of the Green Arrow. His brand new outfit was revealed earlier this year, and he looks incredible. But he's not the only one going through changes.

Diggle will now be sporting a very Magneto-like helmet along with some new militarised gear, whilst Thea will become Speedy in a customised version of Roy's old outfit. Laurel will continue to fight crime as Black Canary and Felicity, well, she's still rocking some brilliant outfits like a normal, every-day person.

With Oliver and Felicity driving off into the sunset at the end of the third season, we know they're going to be called back into the field sooner or later. What we will see going ahead is an exploration of their relationship - will the two be able to maintain a healthy romance whilst dealing with some major villains?

We know that Thea will also be battling some demons of her own. She was resurrected using the powers of the Lazarus Pit, and though it gave her her life back, it changed her forever, and not necessarily for the better.

Damien Darhk is this year's big bad. He's not only dangerous because of the power he holds over the organisation H.I.V.E. as their leader, but because of his mystical powers which have shown him stop an arrow from hitting him with a simple flick of the hand in a new teaser (see below). Oliver may think he's faced off against some of the most challenging in the past, but Darhk is going to test him and his comrades like never before.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim also revealed that the series will be shifting towards a more lighter tone.

He explained to EW: "Ever since Slade Wilson [Manu Bennett] came to town around [season 2, episode 15], the show has been on this very, very dark path, leading to Sara's [Caity Lotz] death and the culmination of season 3. Our goal was to return the show more in the tone of the first season-and-a-half.

It still feels like Arrow, but at the same time, Oliver's got a new outlook on life. We're driving conflict to the show in ways that we never would have in the first three years. So it still feels like Arrow, but it's a different take on the show."

He also mentioned that there will be at least a couple of nods towards Green Lantern, adding; "there may or may not be a ring in the premiere". Could he mean a Power Ring, or a different type of ring entirely? A recent trailer would suggest the latter.

Who's back for season 4?

Charlotte Ross! Felicity's mom is back for an unspecified amount of time, and TVLine reported in August that she could be coming with details surrounding Felicity's father.

We'll also obviously see Stephen Amell, Emily Bett Rickards, Katie Cassidy, Willa Holland, David Ramsey, Paul Blackthorne, Katrina Law and John Barrowman.

Fans of Colton Haynes beware, he's not expected to make an appearance in the new season, though we wouldn't put it past the Arrow writers to get him in for a special guest slot in at least one of the new episodes.

Though signs also point to 'no' for Colin Donnell returning as Tommy Merlyn and Manu Bennett showing his face as Slade Wilson again, they're both very possibly going to worm their way in somehow. Same goes for Karl Yune, Celina Jade, Colin Salmon, and Brandon Routh.

And there will inevitably be the crossover episode, featuring none other than the cast of The Flash - Grant Gustin fronting Team S.T.A.R. Labs.

As if that wasn't enough, we've also got the resurrection of Caity Lotz's Sara Lance to deal with! How will her family react when they realise that, for the second time, Sara's life has not come to a finite end?

Which new faces are onboard?

Neal McDonough will be taking on the role of Damien Darhk, whilst Rutina Wesley is 'Lady Cop' and has recently filmed a story arc with the show. Elysia Rotaru is also onboard, and will be shown as a love interest for Oliver through flashbacks.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim explained to EW: "Oliver is gonna have a love interest in the past that will serve as a parallel or potentially a contrast to his love affair with Felicity in the present."

JR Bourne of Teen Wolf fame steps up in the role of villain Jeremy Tell AKA Double Down, and Jeri Ryan joins the show as an original character who's a family friend of the Queen household, with "political ambitions [that] will place her in the crosshairs of a menacing antagonist."

Echo Kellum will play Mister Terrific

Anarky could be that antagonist, also coming to the show played by Alexander Calvert. Another newcomer comes in the form of a new LGBT character for the show, Echo Kellum's take on Mister Terrific. Jimmy Akingbola also joins as Baron Blitzkrieg, a famous DC Comics supervillain.

It's also been revealed that Hawkman will be introduced in both Arrow and The Flash before he makes it onto DC's Legends of Tomorrow, with Falk Hentschel behind that particular mask. He'll be joined by Ciara Renée, in the role of Hawkgirl.

Oh, and even though Constantine has been cancelled by NBC, Matt Ryan will be guest starring as the man himself when Arrow returns.
