Fans of American Horror Story have been given a new glimpse into the first episode of the new series, Freak Show.
Kicking off on October 8 in America, the show will see returning castmembers such as Jessica Lange, Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson take up whole new roles whilst new additions include Finn Wittrock, Michael Chiklis and John Carroll Lynch.
The series also marks the first time a character from a previous series has been brought back - Pepper from Asylum - in what will serve as a prequel to her story.
In the trailer we are given our first proper look at Twisty the Clown, a character that Ryan Murphy is hoping will steal Pennywise's crown as the scariest clown in history.
Speaking to BuzzFeed, Murphy revealed: "I'm worried about people being too afraid of our clown. It's heart-stopping what he does. I'm worried that people are going to have cardiac arrests... The clown's intro in the first episode is... It's brutal."
"His actions are horrific, but his motives are really strangely, oddly pure," he added. "That's what is most human and most disturbing about it."
Meanwhile he had also confirmed in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly that it was Jessica Lange's idea to go down the carnival route, in what she claims will be her final season of the show.
He explained: "It's something that Jessica had always talked about.
"Jessica's a photographer so she had always been interested in that carny world. If you look at her photography, she's always interested in the lost and the forgotten and the beautiful survivor of it all. We talked about it like, every couple of weeks. She sent me a book actually.
"Once I started investigating it I really loved the idea of it, because I felt it was such a ripe world. The carny world, the freak show really ended for the most part when television began. So one freak show replaced another - so that was always the idea."
American Horror Story: Freak Show comes to UK screens on FOX on October 21 following its US premiere on FX, October 8.
