Misfits returns to our screens tonight and to celebrate, we’ve come up with our favourite moments from the show’s three series so far.
Beware, there’s going to be spoilers ahead, so those who still haven’t got up to speed with E4’s crown jewel (if so, where have you been?) may have stuff spoiled or them.
Nathan Discovering His Power
Throughout the first series of the show, mouthy Nathan didn’t have a clue what his power might be. His constant guess work and disappointment were brilliant to watch as he flailed his way around without a clue, all the time growing more and more desperate to join the club.
In typical Misfits fashion though, the discovery was given perfect comic timing, with Nathan discovering that he was now immortal after being buried.
That Nathan sat in his coffin served as the final shots of the series only made the joke all the darkly funnier, as he was left to wait in his tomb with only an iPod for entertainment.
Nathan’s Speech
Just before his untimely demise, or so it had seemed, Nathan’s fantastic speech was a thing of beauty.
His grand attempts to stop the swell of buttoned down and overly polite youths being commanded by the prudish Rachel (Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown-Findlay) on a rain soaked rooftop was hilarious.
Badly quoting Charles Darwin, decrying the wearing of cardigans and proudly proclaiming “We f***** up bigger and better than any generation before us”, it was perfectly summed up just why we loved Nathan.
Simon’s Reveal
The hoodie wearing badass appeared at the end of the first series and then proceeded to haunt the crew going into the show’s second year, all the time never saying a word or giving us any clue to who it might be.
When it was revealed that the vigilante was actually a time travelling, buff version of Simon from the future, to say that we were shocked is a bit of an understatement.
Kelly’s New Power
After the gang made the decision to buy back their powers, only to realise that they couldn’t have them anymore, Kelly seemed to have made the smartest choice of all when she decided to become an engineering genius.
Lauren Socha always delivered her line’s brilliantly, but not much can top her new catchphrase of “I’m a f****** rocket scientist!” Kelly sitting in a room with diagrams for intercontinental missile designs at the beginning of series three was one of the funniest moments of the entire show’s lifespan.
Although it only came to the fore once or twice, the sheer uselessness of Kelly’s new super power typified the Misfits ethos.
Rudy’s Split Personality
In a show where its character’s powers are often the butt of its jokes, Rudy’s power actually has the ability to tell them.
His almost totally useless ability to become two people with different halves of his personality almost singly serves the purpose of Rudy having hilarious conversations with himself. While one Rudy is brilliant, another one for him to spar against makes our day every time.
Hopefully the next series of Misfits, which starts tonight on E4 will give us more brilliant nuggets of TV gold like these over the next eight weeks.
