Penny Dreadful's first season has now come to a close, so we've taken a look at some characters we'd love to see added to the story in the next season...
Dr Jekyll / Mr Hyde
One of the most famous horror characters of all time, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde are two different personalities rooted inside the same person. Repressing evil urges, Dr Jekyll creates a serum in an attempt to mask that side of his personality, but things get a little out of hand.
Carmilla
Created by Sheridan LeFanu in the 1872 novella of the same name, Carmilla was the original female vampire who paved the way for Dracula's wives and future vampirised, sexy and dangerous women.
Honoria Waynflete
Elderly but observant, Honoria is Agatha Christie's creation and a spinster who murders people in a bid to frame a man called Gordon Whitfield and see him hanged for crimes he did not commit. She's truly insane and it would be fantastic to see an older woman come into the show with such a bang.
The Woman in Black
One of the more recent releases, Susan Hill wrote her novella in the style of the traditionals, and explored the idea of a mysterious spectre that heralded the death of children in a small English town.
Bluebeard
It would be great to see the gang take a break in France and come face to face with Bluebeard - a man so evil that he murders his wives and hangs their bodies in a small room beneath his castle.
Penny Dreadful returns for its second season next year.
