From the very beginning of the TV and film history, we’ve remembered actors who grabbed the attention of the public – and they all seem to have one big thing in common. James Dean, Marlon Brando and Tony Curtis were all as famous for their films as they were for their good looks, and we’re still swooning over dashing actors to this day – the likes of George Clooney, Will Smith and Johnny Depp are on many women’s wish lists when dreaming up a husband.

And in the UK, we’re not short of good looking male stars either – with faces belonging to Jude Law, Tom Hardy and Robert Pattinson, the UK gives the US a good run for its money when it comes to attractiveness. With Jonathan Rhys Meyers returning to our screens on Sony TV in Belle du Seigneur – Tuesday 16th September, 10.10pm – there’s no need to head to the cinema to set your eyes on the world’s hottest males – in fact you don’t even need to leave the comforts of your own home!

As a tribute to some of the most gorgeous men of 2014, we’re taking a look at the top ten British stars that have been on our screens this year. Looking back on the television we’ve had so far this year, we’ve been spoilt for choice by the variety of males to grace our screens.

Belle du Seigneur will be playing on Sony TV (Sky 157 / Virgin 193) on Tuesday 16th September, 10.10pm.

AUGUSTUS PREW

Augustus Prew made his break into film and television as the whiney Alex in About a Boy, opposite Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Grant and Rachel Weiss. He’s certainly blossomed, and is currently playing the poetic George Allingham in The Village, a drama about living in a rural village of Derbyshire in the early 1900s. Prew is currently filming High Rise alongside Tom Hiddlestone, Sienna Miller and Jeremy Irons.

BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH

Benedict Cumberbatch has gained the reputation of being quite the ladies’ man, and whether it’s the chiselled bone structure, the perfect elocution with which he speaks, or the slightly whacky yet charming nature he has behind the cameras, it’s quite difficult to not find something attractive about this undeniably charming man. He appeared on our screens once again as the brilliant Sherlock Holmes in the beginning of this year, and fans of the detective series can look forward to the Christmas special.

LUKE PASQUALINO

Luke Pasqualino gained nationwide exposure when he burst on to British television in Series 3 of Skins, and has recently been playing D’Artagnan in the Musketeers alongside Peter Capaldi. The definition of tall, dark, and handsome, Pasqualino’s Italian heritage has blessed him with one of TV’s most perfect faces. Pasqualino is also doing well in the film industry, and in 2013 starred in the film Snowpiercer alongside Chris Evans and Octavia Spencer.

GREGORY FITOUSSI

Gregory Fitoussi, who many will recognise for playing the undoubtedly gorgeous Henri Leclair in Mr Selfridge earlier this year, is certainly a face that’s difficult to forget. If his handsome looks weren’t enough, his delicious French accent makes him one of TV’s most beautiful people. Fitoussi is unsurprisingly a star in his home nation, but has also had roles in World War Z, GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra and will star in the film Emperor alongside Adrien Brody.

JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS

One particular British actor springs to mind during the topic of eye candy, and that’s Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The Irish star began his acting career in his teens, as he was scouted in a pool hall, and is now one of the hottest men to grace our televisions. Rhys Meyers has taken on a range of dangerously handsome men, from Henry VIII to one of his most recent roles as a womanising Jewish diplomat in Belle du Seigneur.

KIT HARINGTON

Kit Harington, AKA Jon Snow, star of global phenomenon Game of Thrones, has one of the UK’s best manes of television. He pulls off his unruly locks with ease, and quite clearly has a face and physique that complete the entire package beautifully. Prior to landing the role in G.O.T, Harington landed the role of Albert in the Olivier’s production of War Horse whilst still in school. Kit is also the star of recent film Pompeii, based on fictional events leading up to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

ROB JAMES-COLLIER

Rob James-Collier plays the character we all love to hate, Thomas Barrow, the dark Underbutler from Downton. His vicious plots to get people sacked should make him difficult to love, but there’s just something about him that make it impossible… and it’s probably something to do with his good looks. As well as excelling in his acting career, James-Collier also proves he has the brains, with not one, but two degrees under his belt!

SEAN TEALE

Sean Teale appeared in the latest series of Mr Selfridge as Franco Colleano, and joined previously mentioned Gregory Fitoussi in the cast of the popular series set in 1914. Aged just 22, the actor started his career in the series Skins, where he won a main role and garnered interest from his peers. Teale has just finished filming The Red Tent, a biblical series filmed in Morocco, which should hit the screens in 2015.

ANEURIN BARNARD

Aneurin Barnard, who some may recognise from his portrayal of Richard III on BBC One, is soon to be seen in the hotly anticipated Cilla, starring Sheridan Smith. Barnard will play Cilla’s husband, her beloved Bobby. Last year, Barnard appeared as John Trenchard in a two-part adaptation of Moonfleet, which was filmed in Ireland.

TOM CULLEN

Our second gorgeous Downton star on the list is Tom Cullen, who joined the cast midway through series 4 as the Viscount Gillngham. Cullen has also appeared in Black Mirror, and the mini-series World Without End. Welsh born Cullen has also appeared in 2011 film Weekend, for which he included numerous awards including Best Newcomer, as well as Best Actor at the Nashville Film Festival.

Belle du Seigneur will be playing on Sony Entertainment Television (Sky 157 / Virgin 193) on Tuesday 16th September, 10.10pm.
