The most pampered mums in Britain are from Cornwall, as the county is also the place where mothers receive the most lavish gifts on Mothering Sunday.
On average the amount spent on perfume and beauty gifts for Cornish mums was £62.44, and Falmouth in Cornwall was Britain’s most generous town with sons and daughters spending, on average, £106 on Mother’s Day presents.
On the other hand mums in Northallerton in North Yorkshire might be less happy with the presents they’re opening this coming Sunday, as the North Yorkshire market town had the lowest average spend, of a paltry £7.12, in Britain, for Mother’s Day.
Escentual.com’s CEO, Rakesh Aggarwal, said: “There was a huge variation on expenditure for Mother’s Day gifts across Britain but Cornwall, and Falmouth in particular, were by far the most generous.
“But it’s the thought that counts on Mother’s Day, so any present given on the day will always be cherished.”
The five most generous British towns on Mother’s Day, besides Falmouth, include; Royal Leamington Spa in Warwickshire with an average spend of £102 on gifts, Pudsey in West Yorkshire where kids will splurge £97.62 on presents, Bicester in Oxfordshire with £91 being spent on Mother’s Day treats, and Nuneaton in Warwickshire where £88, on average, is how much kids spend on mums.
The five most pampered counties in Great Britain are Cornwall, South Glamorgan, Warwickshire, Derbyshire and Oxfordshire.
At the other end of gift giving on Mother’s Day, the five least generous towns are Northallerton in North Yorkshire with a spend of £7.12, Wallasey in Merseyside where children spend £11.95 on Mother’s Day, Epsom in Surrey with an average spend of £12.32 on gifts, Silchester in Hampshire where kids will fork out £16.50 on presents for mum, and Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire where the budget was £18.50 for a Mother’s Day treat.
The least generous British counties were revealed as Shropshire, South Humberside, Ayrshire, Dorset, and Herefordshire.
Rakesh added: “Many of our beauty brands have launched special gift sets and we see a big spike in bath and body sales. Pampering gift sets sell very well around Mother’s Day, as sons and daughters want their mother to relax and be stress free.”
The results were compiled by online beauty retailer Escentual.com from their nationwide Mother’s Day sales figures which showed that British sons and daughters spend an average of £41.23 on beauty and perfume gifts for their mums.
