Air New Zealand is celebrating being in love this Valentine’s Day with the UK’s first ever live dating show to be held at London Heathrow today.
Two lucky singletons will be matched from five would-be soulmates, then whisked off for a romantic long weekend in LA travelling on Air New Zealand’s unique ‘Cuddle Class’ Economy SkycouchTM seats to see what blossoms.
Lovingly dubbed ‘Blind Gate’, the dating show will give two singletons the chance to find their perfect match from five contestants during a live show at Heathrow check-in.
They’ll navigate three rounds of romantically themed challenges before they are whisked off to enjoy a long weekend in sun soaked Los Angeles
Playing Cupid for the Blind Gate challenge will be TV and radio host, Claudia Winkleman.
Claudia says: “Most singletons expect chocolates and dinner at a nice restaurant but Air New Zealand is taking the dating experience to a whole other level so to speak.
“I think this could be the best blind date ever and if all goes well, there could literally be love in the air!”
En route to LA the couples will be able to get up close and personal on Air New Zealand’s revolutionary Economy SkycouchTM with leg rests that fold 90 degrees to form a flat couch-like space. Entertainment will be non-stop with meals, drinks and movies on hand throughout.
Beyond the flight, couples will take part in a weekend of adventures - from the amorous to the odd - to test their potential for fun as well as love. The experience will be filmed to form a five-part series to be hosted on Air New Zealand’s YouTube channel alongside a ‘watch and win’ competition.
John Wilhelm, Brand Manager for Western markets at Air New Zealand, says: “We’ve been flying between London and LA for more than 30 years but travellers don’t naturally think of Air NZ when it comes to this route.
“Our on-board experience makes hopping on a flight for LA, even for a long weekend, a cinch and Blind Gate is an innovative way of spreading the word.”
