If you’re all set for your summer holiday but still can’t decide whether to bring the flowery dress or the denim shorts, so you just throw them both in the case anyway, along with a whole bunch of stuff that have crept up on the list. Once you arrive at the airport you may find yourself, along with many other Brits, having to make the heart quenching decision of leaving behind your beloved belongings.
SendmyBag.com revealed four fifths of Britons have had to leave some of their holiday belongings behind when packing for their travels, due to not having the baggage allowance to take everything that they’d hoped.
Clothing topped the ranks with 68% of travellers waving goodbye to their attire. Footwear came in second with 62%, and a further 59% revealed to giving up their make-up and toiletries to ensure their case was a little lighter.
All respondents who had to leave items behind were asked where they had left them with 14% indicating that they had discarded their possessions at the airport, however,86% stated that they were left at home, in order to meet the luggage restrictions.
According to the poll, 66% of respondents didn’t mind too much about leaving certain items out of their suitcase as they could replace their abandoned items whilst on holiday. Over half (56%) of the respondents who stated they purchased items whilst on holiday admitted to leaving these items behind when returning home from their travels.
Furthermore, 84% of respondents stated that they would like a slightly higher baggage allowance to accommodate all of their belongings and save them having to leave items at home.
Adam Ewart, Founder of SendmyBag.com, made the following comment: “Having to leave items at home is such a pain, especially if they are things which we’d really like to take. If you’re heading off on a rough and ready trip, it’s much easier to pack light than it is when you’re going to a luxury resort for a couple of weeks on a glamorous holiday. No one wants to look back on their holiday photos and wish that they’d had enough room to squeeze their hair straighteners into their suitcase, after all!
He added: “Although most of us might try to just make do with the minimum, if it’s going to impact your enjoyment of your holiday or add stress to the trip, then it’s time to put your foot down. Holidays are rare and cherished experiences and shouldn’t be compromised. There are always ways around the rules, so we’d advise travellers to look into buying extra luggage allowance or using a service which sends luggage to a destination ahead of them, so that they don’t have to worry about a thing.
