Research from ABTA, the Travel Association, questioned 2,008 holiday makers and discovered that 60 per cent of respondents had changed their way of booking holidays in the past 12 months in order to take advantage of deals and greater availability.
Of these, 26 per cent surveyed said that they delayed bookings until it was closer to the departure date, while 34 per cent of those questioned had booked their holiday further in advance.
Out of those respondents who brought their booking forward, 68 per cent said they did so to secure cheaper prices.
It is also worthwhile to search for deals on various websites offering discounts and holiday deals.
Mark Tanzer, ABTA Chief Executive, said: “Consumers are realising that booking early can have many benefits as well as giving you something to look forward to.”
The busiest month of the year for holidaymakers seems to be August as Office for National Statistics showed that 7.3 million UK residents went abroad during that month last year.
