Those smiles won't last for much longer...

So the morning of your family holiday has arrived. In an attempt to be an organised adult, you rushed the bag packing last night and collected together the passports in your bag. The kids are rounded up and you’re ready to leave the house and set off to the airport.

You know that nearly all family holidays involve some kind of fall out, but you may be surprised to hear that the first tiff with your partner is most likely to occur even before you board the plane, says a recent study from the discount website myvouchercodes.co.uk.

New research from the site has discovered that the first fight on the family holiday happens, on average, after only 25 minutes into the trip.

In an attempt to learn more about family holiday habits of Brits, the website quizzed over 1,000 parents from around the UK about how well the families got on when travelling abroad together.

69 per cent of parents admitted to fighting on holiday, with 55 per cent admitting that the argument was triggered by themselves or their partner. A third claimed that their children are the ones that cause the fights.

The study also revealed that over a half of fights were due to the stresses of running late for a flight, while leaving something behind at home closely followed in the number two spot.

Spending too much time together and deciding what to do and where to eat while were some of the other reasons families argue on holiday.

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, commented on the findings: “Surely, holidays are the time of the year when you want to relax and enjoy your time off with your family, leaving arguments back at home, but sadly it doesn’t always work out that way.”

He advised parents by saying: “Make sure you take time to get everything ready in advance so you can avoid the extra-stress of last-minute packing and running around the house. The last thing you want is to start your holiday on the wrong foot, and spend your whole trip to the airport at each other’s throats.”
