New research has revealed that the majority of British holiday-makers waste what is left of their holiday spend because they can’t be bothered to bring it home and exchange it.
The study, by sunshine.co.uk, asked over 2,000 Brits about their holiday expenditure as part of on-going research into holiday habits of the British public.
Only 12 per cent of holiday-goers had money left over from their last trip, while two thirds spent all of their money and 21 per cent actually spent more than they had budgeted for.
88 per cent of respondents admitted to wasting away their foreign money and the majority said it was because they “couldn’t be bothered” to change it back and a third of people said that the money was budgeting for and therefore just leftovers.
When asked how much they would normally waste on their holidays, the average answer of participants was £150. The most common things purchased with the leftover cash are gifts for family and friends.
Chris Clarkson, co-founder of sunshine.co.uk, said: “If you find yourself near the end of your holiday with money left over, there’s no point going out and spending it just for the sake of it. Yes, you might have budgeted for it, but it’s great to go home with some cash. You can even put it towards your next holiday.
He added: “£150 is a lot of money and instead of spending it all on souvenirs and gifts for others - save it and bring it home.”
