London is cheap for Apple products
Carried out in 33 cities in countries worldwide, Sydney has risen to be the most expensive city in the world, with prices 61 per cent more expensive than the cheapest city, Mumbai. For UK consumers looking for a bargain in Europe, Eastern European cities Warsaw, Budapest and Prague are top of the list.
Also, with Christmas just around the corner and people watching the pennies, it’s reassuring for Brits to know that some of the best deals are actually here in the UK
Now in its 11th year, the International Price Comparison study from PriceRunner.co.uk, the UK’s largest comparison site, tracks the prices of a list of goods including basic products such as milk, bus tickets and petrol alongside popular consumer gadgets such as the iPad and latest Samsung Galaxy S3.
Andrew Walker, UK country manager for PriceRunner.co.uk said: “It’s great to see that London is still one of Europe’s cheapest cities for shopping and living in. If you’re travelling abroad with shopping in mind it is definitely worth checking out the prices in the UK first as there are some brilliant bargains out there.
“Also, with Christmas just around the corner and people watching the pennies, it’s reassuring for Brits to know that some of the best deals are actually here in the UK,” he said.
London is the cutting edge of cool
London is one of the cheapest places in Europe to purchase on trend products such as the new iPad, Converse trainers and a Swatch watch. A pair of classic Converse trainers cost £44.99 in London compared to £76.99 in Oslo, £55.42 in Berlin or £55.48 in Paris. The iconic Swatch watches are £32 in London compared to £46.41 in Budapest or £37.69 in Stockholm. Whilst looking good in London costs less with Lancôme Hypnose black mascara costing £21 compared to £31.39 in Oslo.
For tech savvy Londoners, the new iPad is a bargain at £399 compared to £518.44 in Athens or £596.69 in Madrid. The Macbook Air is £999 in London compared to £1,108.88 in Lisbon or looking further afield, a whopping £1,813.23 in Sao Paolo.
Despite being one of the cheapest places in Europe for Apple products, London is the most expensive for the Sony PlayStation Vista at £289.66 compared to £224.48 in Athens or £169.63 in San Francisco. For Samsung phone fans, Sydney offers the cheapest Samsung Galaxy S3 at £301.74 whilst in London it will cost a whopping £516.31.
Stag do on a shoe string
The Hangover 2 made Bangkok one of the ultimate cities for a stag do and no wonder as it is still one of the cheapest cities in the world. Looking at the cost of a bottle of Vodka, a can of coke, condoms and a late night MacDonalds, Bangkok is the third cheapest city (£18.35) beaten only by Warsaw (£17.96) and Prague (£18.25). In contrast, London costs over £10 more at £30.11 whilst the biggest dent in your wallet would be an evening in Sao Paolo at £37.33.
