To ensure Brits don’t miss any more flights, travel journalist, James Ellis has compiled his top tips for holidaymakers:
1. Check ahead to see what the weather is like in your destination and begin to think about packing a week in advance so it’s not last minute.
2. Stay at an airport hotel. I don’t know why people, especially those who take an early flight, don’t book into a hotel the night before. It reduces the stress of getting to the airport, gives you a good night’s sleep and can give you an extra hour or two in bed before you leave. It’s much better to go on holiday feeling refreshed and ready to go than tired and grumpy.
3. Think about how you are going to get to the airport in advance and plan alternative routes in case there are any problems. Ring up cab companies if you want to use a taxi and get them to give you an estimated driving time with your fare quote.
4. Think of everything you need to do before you leave the house for the airport and make a list and tick them off so nothing is forgotten.
5. Set more than one alarm and get a pal who is travelling with you or is an early riser to give you a call to make sure you get up on time.
