The Queens Hotel in Leeds has to be one of the most ideally located hotels I have ever stayed in. With an LS1 postcode it is situated right in the heart of the city centre, with a mere 2 minutes’ walk to the main shopping mall, bars and restaurants and train station.
The hotel was easily accessed from the M62 and upon arrival you simply pull up and the valet will take your car and park it in their designated car park for you- none of the hassle of looking for space. It costs just £15.95 for 24 hours of secure onsite parking. In the heart of a busy city, I don’t think you can say fairer than that.
Demi at reception was particularly helpful, as she checked us in and told us that we didn't have to have to make a reservation for our evening meal- but pop down to the bar after 6pm to eat when we were ready.
The room itself was large with a partition between the seating area and bed if couples want to have different bedtimes. With dark wood interiors that boasted an Art Deco influence, the hotel reminded me of something from The Great Gatsby.
There were the usual coffee and tea making facilities, with biscuits and water. The bathroom was clean and fully stocked with bath salts, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap and moisturiser. The views of Leeds were spectacular, tempting you to go out and explore.
The bed was huge- enough to take six pillows and had a comfy leather headboard- so we had a very cozy night’s sleep. With a flat screen TV, air conditioning and free internet access it had everything required for a pleasant stay.
Despite an assortment of places to eat sitting right on the doorstep, I would recommend staying in the hotel or a bite to eat in The Queens Bar. We enjoyed a starter of Chargrilled Chicken Salad- Chicken Supreme, Roast Peppers, Little Gem Lettuce, Tomato and Chive Dressing with Baguette Croutons and Soup of the Day, which was Potato and Chive with Tom Breads.
For our main course we both had the Rib Eye Steak (10oz) with Chunky Chips, Grilled Tomato, Field Mushroom, Rocket salad and Pink Peppercorn Sauce.
The meals on the menu were called ‘hearty main courses’ and hearty they certainly were! Although the desserts looked delicious- we had no room spare to indulge, given how filling and delicious the main courses were.
We were served by Kelsea, who kindly altered our orders to suit our needs.
The next day, with the car safely tucked away I was able to leave the hotel and go shopping for a few hours and within minutes I was in the shopping centre. Abbie at reception gave me a map so I knew where everything was. With all of the shops one would expect from a big city, there was plenty to look at before taking a leisurely stroll back to the hotel.
Overall, if you are going to stay in Leeds then this is one hotel to definitely consider. When you set foot inside you feel like you are taking a step back in time into the elegance of the 1930s. The staff were all more than willing to help in any way they could. If you are looking for some retail therapy, a night out, a couple’s weekend away or a business trip- the hotel is the hub for all your needs.
Thanks to Demi, Kelsea, Amber, Abbie and all the staff for making our stay so relaxed and enjoyable!
