In the Hilton London Tower Bridge we were greeted by Katalin at reception who kindly let us check in early despite arriving before the designated check in time. She looked on the system and found that our room was ready and so let us check in drop off our bags before heading into the city.
I confirmed our restaurant reservation at Takara and Katalin showed us where the lifts were to get to our room and where we would be dining in the evening. The meal was originally scheduled for 7.30pm, however Katalin kindly arranged for us to move this back to nine so we could have more time to spend in the city.
The room itself was large with a spacious bathroom and the most breath-taking view of the city with the Shard to the left of us. It boasted a sliding wardrobe, safe, desk, seating area, ironing board and iron, dry cleaning service, large screen TV with many channels and a voice activated alarm clock and radio.
The bathroom was equipped with Peter Thomas Roth toiletries including, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and massage bar and a set of scales. It had a separate bath and shower and a telephone by the toilet!
As we stayed in the executive room, we had access to the executive lounge. The lounge had an outdoor area to sit and watch the beautiful views of London and take in the tranquillity of being 9 floors above the bustle of the city. It supplied guests with free alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and savoury and sweet snacks as well as an array of newspapers catering for English and visitors from abroad.
It provided us with a lovely place to sit between our activities in the day and somewhere to finish the evening off before bed at night given that it opened from 7am-11pm. I would highly recommend booking a room with access to this lounge. It provided not only an easily accessible place to retreat to on the upper floors but also an alternative area to relax other than your room.
In the evening we had reservations at the onsite restaurant Takara, a sushi bar. We are served by Visanna who provided us with the recommendation of a wasabi cocktail, while we waited for our seat. We originally were going to eat at the tables in the middle of the hotel reception area, however changed our minds and wanted to sit by the sushi bar. Visanna was more than helpful and moved us to where we wanted to be.
The chef and Visanna were extremely helpful; given that we had not had sushi before and helped us to pick a dish that was suited to our tastes. Both members of staff recommended a large platter of fish so we could sample many of the dishes at once to find out which fish dish we preferred. We began with edamame, recommended by the chef, Tofu and spring onion mosi soup and mosi salad.
The main course consisted of Scallops in garlic and chilli mayonnaise and blow torched salmon, in a lime and lemon sauce. Everything was expertly cooked and beautifully presented and the Visanna was very attentive in providing us with drinks and making our service swift.
Our dinner reservation was late (9pm) and so the chef was kind enough to check with us if we wanted anything else before he closed for the night as we were the last couple dining at the bar.
The breakfast was buffet style, with both continental and traditional English breakfast options, made with quality ingredients. The staff brought coffee and tea around for us as soon as we sat down at our table and were efficient in clearing away our crockery.
The hotel itself is a mere five minutes’ walk from the nearest tube station (London Bridge), and after exiting the station can be easily seen from the street.
Overall, I could not fault my stay at the Hilton London Tower Bridge. It offered everything that one could expect from a hotel stay and much more. The executive lounge is a must if you are staying here and is located with great access for both tourists and business men and women alike. The staff were poised, friendly and helpful at every turn and made our stay very enjoyable.
Thanks Hilton London Tower Bridge, Visanna, Katalin and all its staff for our stay!
