If breathtaking glamour is something you look for when you're taking a trip to the capital, then look no further than Sunborn London. This gorgeous super yacht is a hotel like none you'll have stayed on before, located in the prestigious Victoria Docks of East London adjacent to the ExCel Centre; perfectly situated for the business traveller, or the intrepid explorer.
From the moment you enter the yacht, you're presented with luxury. A sweeping glass staircase and crystal chandeliers transport you into a completely new world; and it's not just on the deck at check-in to lure you into a false sense of security. Each of the five decks are a sight to behold; it's like Titanic, but without the tragic ending.
With 136 spacious yacht bedrooms and suites spread across the five decks, it's never a place that feels lonely. Personal space is something that's offered up in each of the bedrooms however, and if you, like me, look forward to a comfy night's sleep, then you won't be disappointed.
For social butterflies, a number of on board facilities are available, including the Sundown cocktail bar, Auditorium and Cinema room, Sky Lounge, Symphony Skin Therapy rooms and multiple event spaces, as well as the fine dining Land's End restaurant, where I checked out the menu and enjoyed some delicious food.
Kicking off the night with a bottle of white wine and a basket of bread, I decided to try the crispy free range hen egg, with Caesar emulsion, charred gem lettuce and truffle for my starter. It was the perfect size, delivering just the right amount of flavour without becoming overpowering. Sometimes with starters of this kind, you're risking a heaviness on the stomach before you've even taken a bite of your main, but the chefs at Land's End have ensured that isn't the case here.
When it came to the main event, I couldn't resist ordering the Salt Marsh lamb rump, with hasselback potato, seasonal greens and peas, alongside a black garlic, crème fraiche and mint. All of these gorgeous flavours combined for one delicious experience. By the time I reached the end of the meal, I was happily satisfied, but who can leave a restaurant without some dessert?
Closing things out, I ordered the chocolate delice, with salted caramel and malt cream. It was the best way to say goodnight for the evening, and a real testament to the series of chefs who were behind-the-scenes, making sure their customers left Land's End with a smile on their face. The friendly staff, who were at your call whenever you may need something, were also a delight to interact with.
Unfortunately, during our stay at Sunborn, it was absolutely tipping it down outside! It would be nice to come back to the super yacht during a particularly hot time in London, to check out what the outside decks and facilities have to offer. That didn't put too much of a damper on the evening however; this is a place I would recommend to anybody without so much as a second thought.
