St Georges Hotel is ideally located right on the sea front at Llandudno, standing out from the rest with its golden embellished balcony and crisp white and crème frontage.
The town has a very relaxed pace of life, so as soon as you arrive you can immediately unwind to join in with the slower and gentler atmosphere that comes with this part of the world.
St Georges boasts a Victorian décor that is reminiscent of when Llandudno began its journey as a desirable seaside resort. That combined with stunning views from both the bedrooms located at the front of the hotel and the in house restaurant, it’s certainly worth a stay if you are thinking about Wales this summer.
The parking is limited to only 30 spaces, so I would suggest getting there early if you have a booking, however to combat this issue the hotel does have a double parking policy. You can find a space for your car which will be moved when necessary if you leave your keys at the front desk. There is also all day parking available along the front of the hotel on first come first serve basis.
The hotel is located right down towards where all the action takes place, in our case the Victoria Extravaganza that was held over the Bank Holiday weekend. Despite it being closed for another year, there is plenty to keep you occupied while you are staying in the hotel. With the pier, shops, Llandudno Cable Car and Afternoon Tea at St Tudno Hotel and Restaurant a mere 10 minutes’ walk away you can be sure to find something to take your fancy.
It is also an ideal base if you want to visit the Casltes of Conwy, Caernarfon and Criccieth, Snowdonia, Angelsey, Plas Newydd and Penrhyn Castle or Bodnant Gardens.
We decided to stay with tradition and got fish and chips for tea; however the menu at the hotel was very varied and served locally sourced ingredients including fresh fish. The Terrace Restaurant is located in the conservatory at the front of the hotel, so you can enjoy your meal while looking out to sea and watching the world go by. We had tea and cake in the afternoon in the lounge and if you pick the right seat you can also sneak a peek of the views!
Bar snacks are served until 9.30pm so if you want a lighter bite in a more relaxed setting you can enjoy your food with a few drinks in the bar or lounge.
The room itself was large, decorated in muted tones, with a TV,, twin beds, a dressing table and fully stocked bathroom with choice of bath or shower. We were unable to secure a sea view room, however faced onto the other buildings at the rear of the hotel, so had a very quiet and restful night’s sleep. The hotel recently had a 4 million refurbishment in 2006 and so the decor is still fresh and modern, with long corridors between the rooms with seating areas at regular intervals.
All of the staff were impeccably dressed, friendly and delivered everything we asked of them, so overall a very pleasant stay indeed. Thank you to all the staff who helped make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
