There will be a sprinkle of Spain this year
Spain tops the Christmas list for getaway Brits this year, beating festive favourites, New York City shopping, skiing in the Alps and winter warming in Florida.
In research carried out by the prepaid MasterCard provider, my Travel Cash, it was found that a quarter of Christmas holiday-makers are looking to swap the fireside for the poolside and the snow for the sand in the European tourist mecca, Espana.
The other usual favourites were only pipped to the post though, with 23 per cent of travellers opting for France and 17 per cent choosing America.
With Spain only hitting highs of 17°C, offering no tan and a cold swim, it could be difficult to work out why many of us are fleeing to Spain this winter.
But Myles Stephenson, CEO of my Travel Cash, may have the answer. He said: “While Spain may seem an unusual choice for Christmas, it is a destination that offers great value.
"With the pound holding its own against the Euro, Brits can secure a good rate, which will allow them to make their festive budget go even further.”
