Brighton Beach in the summer

With the recession glooming over us and summer getting nearer, booking a summer holiday can become stressful for us all. However, there are many attractions and historical sites in the UK that proves you do not have to spend a lot of money and travel far to make the most of your summer.

Brighton: East Sussex
Brighton is a seaside resort with a nightlife of over 200 pubs and bars. It is a beautiful city and with the sun shining, why not take a stroll down the pier? Brighton is the perfect UK holiday on a budget and will not disappoint.

There is plenty to see and do in Brighton and many are free to do. One of the main attractions is Brighton beach, which has been voted one of the top 10 beach destinations in the world. Brighton beach is a beautiful pebbled beach and the view looks like it has come straight off a postcard.

Keep active by doing the undercliff walk that stretches from Brighton Marina to Saltdean. The area is home to many fossils of mammoths, wolly rhinos and hippos and will be a big interest to historical and geological fanatics. With plenty of places to take a stroll or have a picnic, Brighton is perfect for a summer holiday.

Brighton also has many free museums and art gallieres that are completly free and are ideal if you want a break from the beach. Visit the Natural History Museum to view over half a million speciemens.

Windermere: Lake District
Visiting the Lake District does not mean you have to spend a lot of money as there are many free activities to do here. There are many places to walk in the Lake District and summer is the perfect time to take a stroll around Windermere. There are also many cycling tracks scattered around and travelling to the Lake District guarantees an active holiday for all the family.

And to save your money even more, why not enjoy the picturesque landscape and try camping? Enjoy the great outdoors and pitch up a tent, get the BBQ going and enjoy your summer away.

Cardiff: Wales
Cardiff is the capital and largest city in Wales and is a commerical centre, however it is possible to save money and spend cheaply if done right.

St Fagan's National History Museum is a free museum situated 4 miles west of the city and is an open-air museum showcasting the life and culture of Wales. This museum will educate you with an understanding of Wales and how it has been developed over time. Another free museum that is worth a vist is The National Museum, Cardiff, which displays art, archaeology, natural history and geology.

One of the main reasons to visit Cardiff this summer however is the Cardiff Summer Festival, which is completly free. Open-air theatre, chidren's festivals, Welsh proms and carnivals are just some of the few things that can be expected to be seen at this festival. It is a funpacked festival for all the family and offers a cheap, fun day out.

Woolacombe: North Devon
Woolacombe is a beautiful resort with a three-mile stretch of golden sand. It has a Blue Flag status and the Premier Seaside Beach awards. The resort also holds the 'England for Excellence Gold Award' for being the best family resort and it was also voted for the Best British Beach in the Mail on Sunday. The beach also holds the title of one of Britian's best.

Many tourists come to Wollacome as the beach is a great spot to practice watersports including sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. However if you are not interested in watersports, you can also laze on the beach or visit one of the two national parks.

Take a trip to Wollacombe villiage where you will see lively pubs and restaurants and many activities to keep you going throughout the night.
