Ever since I watched Jonathan Creek as a teenager (and bought myself the dvd box set in last year's January sales) I have always wanted to live in a windmill….
Whilst I know that's probably never going to happen, I have now set my sights on saving up for this whole year and treating myself to a windmill holiday in 2012.… so over the next week or two, I'm going to share with you my favourite windmills on the web.
Moulin85 – near La Rochelle, France
A lovingly renovated 19th century Windmill in the Vendee region of France... an ideal setting for a romantic honeymoon or special occasion. The Moulin is set just outside a small village. The only noise comes from church bells that chime hourly and the sound of the sheep and cows in the surrounding fields.
If you need more space though….
The Old Mill - Stoke Ferry, Norfolk
A totally unique holiday rental, this Grade II Windmill has been completely renovated to provide a stunning holiday home. Standing imposingly within its large garden the Mill offers 360 degree views stretching up to 20 miles from the 7th floor. The garden has heated pool and large BBQ area.
I also fell head over heels with….
Rustic Roundhouse, The Dordogne, France
Probably the only one of its kind in France, this roundhouse was handmade with earth, logs and bottles, has a turf roof and reclaimed double-glazed windows. Copied from an original and inspired design by Tony Wrench and built by Ruari MacGibbon, it is truly one of a kind.
