Those living in the north of the UK are spending nearly £200 more than those living in the south on their holiday in 2013, according the lastminute.com.
It is arguable that this could be due to the house prices reaching more than twice as much in London than in the north, with the average house in the south costing a huge £318,214. This might explain why southerners’ holidays are being affected.
The research found that the average amount spent of someone living in the north has gone up by £118 per person when comparing the stats with 2012. 29% of northerners will go on their summer holidays this year and spend over £1,000 per person. This is similar to the Scots who also will spend around £1,000 per person, however only one in five southerners will spend the same.
When comparing the males versus females, the males came out on top, getting through £918 of their holiday spending money, whereas woman spent £831.
Mark Maddock, Managing Director of lastminute.com UK and Ireland said,
“Our findings have highlighted a north-south divide we’re not used to seeing, and it may be that the cost of housing is beginning to impact southerners’ purchasing power. However, people deserve to get maximum value from their hard-earned holiday budgets and at lastminute.com we can guarantee fantastic getaways for affordable prices.”
