It would seem that the only thing that keeps our clothes on in Britain is the weather for we are not shy when it comes to bearing all on holiday. One in five say that they would be happy to go to a nudist beach when they are abroad, compared to 5% that would do the same in the UK.
Online travel agent One the Beach conducted a survey with 16,500 Brits and asked if they would bare all at home or away. It revealed that abroad they do not hold back but at home their inhibitions get the better of them.
Many female Brits enjoy making sure that they have no tan lines, however it is the men who are far more keen to strip down to their birthday suit. 27% of men are happy to spend the day at a nudist beach of which 10% would not be phased using the nudist beaches back home. However, for the women the story is little different with only 12% willing to take it off abroad and a meagre 2% doing it here.
Unsurprisingly the younger holiday makers have less to worry about with 20% of under 30s who will use a nudist beach, however back home it’s the older folk that are more secure with one in 10 over 60s content to go to nudist beach, in comparison with 2% of under 30s.
Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer at On the Beach, comments, “When on holiday, people often feel more audacious, confident in the knowledge they won’t bump into neighbours, colleagues or old friends. The weather could also have an effect on the willingness to strip off, as the chances of sporting obvious and irritating tan lines is somewhat lower after a day spent sunbathing in the mild UK temperatures compared to the scorching summers in the Mediterranean. ”
