It’s not an everyday event to witness the launch of a stunning new cruise ship, but Saturday (November 9th, 2019) the cruise world took that step as MSC Cruises’ christened their largest state of the art new vessel MSC Grandiosa.

Special guests from the world of travel, the media and a host of VIPs all came together in the port of Hamburg to witness the christening by Hollywood icon Sophia Loren, of MSC Grandiosa.
The ceremony took place across the ship, with proceedings hosted by the singer, actress, and model, Michelle Hunziker, and actor Jochen Schropp, while special guests included international celebrities, Annemarie and Wayne Carpendale, Mousse T. and Emma Lanford.
On shore a purpose-built “MSC Village” on the banks of the River Elbe took the festivities to land, with 5,000 locals joining in with the christening celebrations.
The highlight of the night was when MSC Grandiosa sailed past the Elbphilharmonie, which was bathed in a special blue light show that illuminated the building and the ship itself. Then, the ship took up centre-stage on the River Elbe so that its Godmother Sophia Loren could officially christen, what is her 15th vessel, followed by the cutting of the ribbon.
The MSC Grandiosa is MSC Cruises newest, most environmentally advanced flagship; an extraordinary ship designed to ensure even cleaner air emissions and improved overall environmental performance both at sea and ashore - and it is now open for business.
The MSC Grandiosa will now sail to Southampton from Hamburg before taking her 6,500 passengers around the Mediterranean and other exotic destinations.
During these voyages they will enjoy gastronomic delights in the speciality restaurants.
The cruise ship also boasts exclusive shows of artistic mastery from Cirque Du Soleil at Sea, with their performance Exentricks – Expect the Unexpected: a spectacle full of fun and mischief. There's also the show Cosmos - Journey to the Unbelievable: a soul-stirring voyage across the galaxy.
The ship also sports children’s entertainment areas, F1 simulators, a bowling alley, and a water park amongst other attractions to keep all entertained and enthralled.
