beautiful tan whilst on holiday

This is because some research was conducted by an travel agency based online, where a poll was done to reveal that most Britons priorities on holiday are surprisingly different to those we may have anticipated. The poll disclosed that there was an increase for 'tan tourism', with a whopping 41% claiming hat their number one priority lay in 'getting a tan' over things like 'relaxation' or 'time spent with family or loved ones'.

This fascinating poll got the truth out of us Brits, showing how our priorities when on holiday are different to what was expected - why do we go on holiday in the first place? Well I can tell you that the results have shown that the majority of Britons want to looks good and what with getting rain more days than you can count in the UK, it can be somewhat slight explanation as to why 'getting a tan' on holiday came out with such a high percentage.

Sunshine website had actually carried out this research as part of an on-going investigation into what Britons like to do whilst on holiday. Everyones idea of a holiday is different so therefore it was surprising to see what the results was. This particular poll was done using 2,362 UK adults who had recently taken a holiday abroad in the past 12 months were polled and respondents were told to answer questions about what they had thought was the most important activity when going away on holiday.

When asked the question ‘What was your top priority when on your last holiday abroad?’ and told they could select answers from a list, or submit their own if their priority didn’t appear, the top 5 most popular answers were as follows:

1. To get a tan – 41%

2. To relax/have a break from work - 22%

3. To spend quality time with friends/loved ones – 14%

4. Holiday flings/romances – 12%

5. To create good memories – 7%

They looked into the answers and then decided to question anyone who seleced ‘to get a tan’ a little more. They were asked if they achieved a tan they were satisfied with on their last holiday abroad, 61% said ‘no’ and that they would have liked to have been darker before they went back home.

More than one in ten, 12%, confessed that they regret spending so much time trying to get a tan, and over a third of them (34%) did not find the act of getting a tan 'enjoyable'! And heres me thinking holidays are for fun and enjoyment!

Chris Clarkson, Managing Director of sunshine.co.uk, said the following:

“It seems a shame that so many people prioritise ‘getting a tan’ on holiday, when a trip abroad should be so much more than that. You’re not going to be good company for those you are on holiday with if you spend all your time flat out on a sun lounger with your headphones blaring.“If people are that bothered about catching some rays, they should combine sun bathing with excursions and other holiday activities that will enable them to relax and spend quality time with friends and loved ones. You can still get a tan walking about on holiday, but we suggest people put that lower down on their list of priorities.”

My sentiments exactly!
