Holiday Inn Chester South
Holiday Inn Chester South is conveniently situated 35 miles away from Manchester Airport, next to the Chester Business Park and just 2.5 miles from Chester city centre. Ellesmere Port is also a mere 8 miles away too.
When we arrived, we were greeted by Hayley, who confirmed our booking, told us where our room was located and made a reservation in the restaurant for us- she was very friendly and made an excellent first impression for the hotel.
The hotel is only on two levels, so rather than there being lots of floors the rooms are spread over just two. If you are disabled or find it hard to get around I would suggest a booking a room that is closest to reception as the walk to the higher numbered rooms is quite far.
Our executive room was decked out in wooden features- with a dressing table, wardrobe, double bed and sliding shutters at the windows that blocked out all sound. We had tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary bottles of water, a chocolate bar and biscuits, WI-FI, pay per view movies, mini-bar, safe and ironing board. The bathroom was clean, stocked full of freebies and a had fluffy white bathrobe for extra comfort when in the room.
The executive rooms are located to the rear of the hotel, overlooking a grassy area, so you can guarantee a quiet night’s sleep.
If you are staying, I would certainly recommend a meal in the Junction Restaurant Diner. We thoroughly enjoyed a three course meal including; to start; Chicken and Duck Rilette- slow cooked shredded duck and smoked chicken on a toasted baguette and Garlic Mushrooms- pan friend garlic mushrooms in garlic on toasted brioche topped with melted stilton.
For our main course we had Oriental Style Pulled Pork with Stir Fry Vegetables and Steak and Chips, which was full of novelty as the chips came in a basket, with Holiday Inn themed newspaper cuttings to make it more traditional.
For dessert we had Apple and Toffee Crumble with Custard. We were served by Gavin, who ensured we had enough drinks throughout our meal and was very attentive at every course, making sure our food was brought out swiftly. The service and food are definitely two of the hotels biggest selling points. We both agreed that we felt as if we were dining in a four star hotel restaurant.
However, if you are looking for something more informal there is the Terrace Bar and Lounge, which has Sky Sports and light bites or there is 24 hour room service if you want to eat in your room.
Breakfast was buffet style, with tea and coffee served at the table. There was the usual array of breakfast options, from fruit, to cooked meals, cereals, juice and toast there was something for those who wanted to treat themselves as well as the more health conscious. Everything was restocked regularly, so there was always enough as more and more guests arrived for their breakfast. The most exciting part of the breakfast for me was the pancake machine- great for kids (and adults!)- it makes fresh pancakes with a choice of sauces to accompany them- the perfect way to start the day the American way!
Overall, Holiday Inn Chester South is perfect for someone on a business trip, however in our experience it also ideal for a couple looking for a weekend away from home. With good food, approachable staff, the city close by and a restful night’s sleep, it is the perfect place for both business and pleasure.
For the more active guests there is an on-site gym, Spirit Health Club for classes and a swimming pool, so you can unwind after a hectic day at work or you can enjoy some leisure time together.
If you are coming with kids there is a kids dine free option for children under the age of 12 and you can also buy your Chester Zoo tickets from reception if you are stuck for a day out.
Holiday Inn Chester South caters for every guest, whether you are a couple, a family or on business there is a room and an experience to suit everyone.
