Brits book trips abroad for the sun, sea and sand, but it seems that we enjoy escaping from the daily chores of life.
A recent survey revealed that the daily commute is what 40% of Londoners are eager to escape from with 33% stressing about being squashed on the tube!
Secret Escapes have launched the Great Escapes Report to mark the launch of the new Secret Escapes app, available on Android and iOS and free to download, which allows consumers to book breaks faster and easier than ever before.
A further 35% of holidaymakers enjoy avoiding the cleaning. In fact, it seems that 28% enjoy being wined and dined, while 29% enjoy a good old lie in with no alarm clock!
The post-holiday blues set in for 14% of us as soon as we walk through the front door after returning from a break away. For 16%, it’s the commute to work the next day when the blues really kick in.
Top 5 things Brits want to escape from on holiday are:
- Cleaning (36%)
- Alarm clock (29%)
- Cooking (28%)
- Annoying colleagues (18%)
- Partner (10%)
However, the commute doesn’t have to be a thing of dread anymore. Sparking the trend of ‘underground booking’, the new app from Secret Escapes enables commuters to browse deals, be inspired by new adventures and mentally escape to faraway destinations as they travel to work. And while we often dream of exotic destinations from dawn till dusk, Secret Escapes has found that the nation’s holiday daydreaming reaches an all-time high after lunch at 2.34pm, the newly dubbed “holiday hour”.
Rob Day, Editor, Secret Escapes says: “Escaping the stresses of everyday life is something we all deserve and this research shows just how much we value having a break to look forward to. We’ve developed our app to cater for people who want to keep up-to-date with the latest hotspots, travel deals and holiday inspiration on the move, providing them with the latest information when they’re both on and offline. The Secret Escapes app is the perfect tool for anyone looking to browse and book their next great escape whether that’s exploring a new culture, feeling the rush of adrenaline or winding down with a relaxing spa break after a hard week’s work.
