As you begin to plan and book your summer holidays, it’s important to pack all the essentials. When it comes to getting yourself organised, do you remember to check the most important thing of all? The expiry date on your passport!
Following the passport application backlog, Brits have been rushing to get their passports ready in time for the summer break.
www.sunshine.co.uk have revealed that more than half, 53%, couldn’t say how long was left on their current passport without checking their documents.
Brits admitted that they would not be able to accurately say when their passport was due to expire, putting them at risk if they were to book any last minute trips abroad.
The passport application backlog has affected almost half a million holidaymakers according to the holiday website.
The poll revealed that 57% of people have already booked a summer escape this year, of these people, 23% indicated that they were unsure when their passport was due to expire.
Not only are Brits unaware of the expiry date but 17% of the respondents taking part admitted that they had previously forgotten their passport and hadn’t realised until they arrived at the airport, port or train station.
Furthermore 12% of those surveyed think that their passport picture does not look like them due to changes in their appearance since the photo was taken.
Chris Clarkson, Managing Director of sunshine.co.uk, said: “Considering everything that’s happening with the passport scandal lately and the backlog of applications and renewals, it’s so important for holidaymakers to be aware of when their passport runs out.
“Make sure you’re really organised when you first make your booking and ensure everything is in place for your holiday, or you will risk the disappointment of not being able to go! Last minute stress before heading away on a holiday you have been looking forward to is not the ideal start to your trip, so make sure all preparations are handled well in advance.
