Tucked away in the Hampshire countryside, you’ll find the Away Resort Holiday Village of Sandy Balls - a luxurious site set amongst five-acres of meadow and woodland on the very edge of the New Forest one of the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pastureland, forest and heathland, in the south of England.
You will have on your doorstep 120 acres of some of the most stunning woodlands at the Sandy Balls Holiday Village, which is located between the villages of Godshill and Fordingbridge and bounded on the western edge by the River Avon. This pocket of heaven is the perfect base to explore Hampshire’s stunning countryside.
Knowing Hampshire, we were happy to base ourselves at Sandy Balls Resort, as there is so much to see and do within easy reach. A short seven miles drive are the award-winning beaches of Bournemouth, or near to Sandy balls is one of the area’s oldest breweries based on the banks of the River Avon, a mere 15-20 minutes, drive away.
With that said, you really don’t really need to venture beyond the holiday village itself, with luxurious touches around you, and blissful large blue skies above.
Activeties include swimming with two pools, mountain biking, a fully fitted gym, multiple play areas for the younger children, and even Alpacas walking. The only thing you need is good supplies, the usual bottle or two of Prosecco, plenty of dips, a selection of midnight feast snacks, for later on to chill back with under the stars.
From our Lodge we had the most stunning views, made all the more glorious by the mid summer golden sunshine and warm summer heat.
Sandy Balls Holiday Village
The site is pristine and well maintained, with thoughtful details throughout. Each Lodge at Sandy Balls is named, we were in ‘Woodlands’. These sleep between six and eight people, with one king bed and four on singles, as well as a double bed settee.
The main bedroom had a private en-suite shower room, the rest shared a toilet bath and shower. Outside was a barbeque and seating, and the one we stayed in had a hot tub on the balcony.
The kitchen was perfect, breakfast bar, kitchen sink, electric hob, dish washer, food cupboard, fridge-freezer, crockery, utensils and cutlery. This opened onto the six-seater dining area, which in turn opened onto the living room fitted with two settee’s a modern electric fire and a large TV on the wall.
But the best was outside - the balconey had great views and even better night skies to sit out in the evening with a drink of wine or your favorite tipple and just soak up the atmosphere under a starry sky.
Stargazing in a Hot Tub
One of the crowning glories of our stay was that our lodge had its own private hot tub. Something our sons were very excited about. The hot tub was checked out daily by a technician meaning it was always in peak condition. Ideal to sit and watch the sun go down relaxing while the warm water eased the body and soothed you while taking away the aches and pains of the days actions – ‘perfection’.
I think the thing we loved the most was that our kids from the oldest to the youngest were able to make friends with ease and go and do their own thing. With the Holiday Village being surrounded by fields, and the wooded walkways of the New Forest, it is very safe and spacious for children to roam free, meet, chat and make friends in these beautiful surroundings
Eating Out
Onsite you can add some culinery delight to your holiday at Aubrey’s Forest Kitchen. Have breakfast or enjoy fresh cooked dishes including artisan pizzas, charcoal grilled steaks, or a choice of delicious pasta dishes and enjoy a cocktail or two with your meal.
Also onsite is the Woodside Inn, pub vibes to make your holiday a home-from-home experience. All the family are welcome - including your dog - to enjoy entertainment in the Woodside Suite, and gourmet pub food adding to the all-round feeling of holiday happiness
While offsite, literally just around the corner is the nearby ‘Fighting Cock’ (great pub food) great atmosphere and great local ales.
Sleep in Peace
Inside the lodges there is a large comfortable king-sized bed with soft bedding, pillows, quilts and cushions, while the other two bedrooms both have twin single beds with similar soft bedding and comfy pillows, quilts, and cushions. Everything for a good nights sleep and a morning lie in.
New Friends
One thing you get from a Park Holiday is the social aspect, which unlike a hotel stay are so much more open and relaxed, it is being outdoors together that always seems to make people mix so much better. This is what happened during our stay at Sandy Balls holiday Village, the kids made friends, had adventures together, while as parents you feel safe knowing that they can roam free. In the evenings, families gathered around outside on the large balconies, or shared the hot tubs, while the children played together happily, and all under a beautiful moonlight sky.
