The Bower House sits on the corner of the market square of Shipston on Stour nestled in the northern edge of the Cotswolds and less than ten miles from Shakespeare’s Stratford – upon - Avon,
The Bower House, originally built in 1731, and now with the addition of an adjoining shop this grade II listed building has been restored into an individual unique restaurant and bar with five stunning en-suite bedrooms.
Upstairs are the five spacious, elegant hotel bedrooms including one that has an additional bunk bedroom for children. Even the smallest of the quintet has a freestanding roll top cast iron bath and all feature Hungarian tiling and antique fittings.
Downstairs in this Georgian building is the restaurant – and might I add, a ‘proper’ restaurant with a menu which serves great dishes that offer superb flavours.
Described by the Chef Sukhjinder Aujla (previously worked at Nobu, The Savoy and The Metropolitan in London) as “modern British with a French twist”, with an emphasis on producing good food consistently, well that has certainly been achieved.
High on the list of recommendations is the Cotswold Rump of lamb, or the Herefordshire Sirloin and for the non-meat eater particularly delicious is the Cauliflower Steak, Again, speaking from experience the puddings are an absolute delight perfect for finishing your meal.
They serve a great selection of wines to accompany the meals as well as locally distilled Cotswolds Gin, Whiskey, and Vodka for those who are partial to a cocktail.
This puts to bed the thinking that you can only experience fine dining in London and the other big cities.
Breakfast ranges from a continental option of muesli/cereals and croissants to freshly prepared dishes such as avocado and ricotta, and bacon, eggs and black pudding.
If you are looking for a romantic break, or just a relaxing time away from all the hustle and bustle to relax and recharge your batteries then put a stay at The Bower House on your bucket list.
This would be an ideal way to spend a few days in the beautiful setting of the Cotswolds particularly if you enjoy country walks, where the delights of Stratford–upon–Avon are but a short drive away, coupled with a stay in a stunning Hotel, to eat in one of the best restaurants around, be looked after by the staff headed up by Manager Paul, then The Bower House in Shipston-on-Stour couldn’t be more perfect.
