Having been to Alton Towers a few times, it never loses its appeal. It is great to go back every year and do all of the rides again and see what new things that park has to offer.
This year Smiler was the big new attraction, you can see my review by clicking on the link!
For those who haven’t been, the park accommodates the young and the old, with thrill seeker’s roller-coasters as well as gentler rides for small children and other activities to keep you engaged throughout the day. So we will take a look at a few of them!
Air is located in the Forbidden Valley and is the first flying roller-coaster, where you are tipped onto your tummy to feel like you are flying around the valley. It reaches 47 mph, which is slower than the likes of Nemesis, however is well worth it to experience the different sensation of riding head first. A good tip for this one is to get into the front row and forget that you are strapped in!
Nemesis is an inverted roller-coaster, located within the Forbidden Valley at Alton Towers. At its top speed it reaches 50 mph. It has four inversions, two corkscrews, a zero g roll and a vertical loop. The ride has been so popular; it has encouraged the creation of two similar themed rides, Nemesis Sub Terra in Alton Towers and Nemesis Inferno at Thorpe Park. This remains on of my favourite rides at Alton Towers despite being one of the oldest. It has the tradition uphill before its first drop which gets your adrenaline pumping for what comes next!
Oblivion was the first rollercoaster in the world to include a vertical drop. The ride reaches 68mph, making it the third fastest rollercoaster in the UK. Having been on this ride once, I am fearful to do it again. It is built for the hard core roller-coaster lovers among us! The uphill climb gives you excellent views of the rest of the park before it takes you onto the edge where it holds you for a few seconds before dropping you. A real tummy lurcher! Simply standing at the bottom and looking up at this ride makes your stomach to a turn!
Rita is an accelerator roller-coaster, located in the Dark Forest at Alton Towers. It accelerates to 60mph in only 2.5 seconds, although the rest of the ride is just as fast as any of the other rollers coasters, the latter part acts as light relief from the take-off! Once seated, there are traffic lights that prepare you for when you will be surged into the 60mph start, which gives you time to put your head back and embrace the speed!
Congo River Rapids is a gentler ride, located in Katanga Kanyon, which weaves its way past the Runaway Mine Train around the outer part of the Kanyon. You are guaranteed to get wet on this one as it bumps across the choppy water and floats between two waterfalls on either side of you! Just when you think you are free of it all, other guests can pay to squirt you from the walkways to soak you even more!
So there you have it, to name a few, but there are many more rides and attractions in the park to indulge in on the day for an enjoyable trip out for the entire family. If you look about there are often 2 for 1 vouchers that will get you into the park for cheaper than the price of a normal ticket. Once you get in there, there are lots of tasty temptations and souvenirs, so I would advise that you bring some extra spending money on the day! For the best experience I would suggest staying at the hotel so you can have two days in the park. This way you are under no pressure to get everything in in one go!
