As London celebrated the culmination of its highly successful Olympics game, the buzz began to build for Rio, the next host city. On Sunday 12 August holidaymakers were visiting Cheapflights.co.uk to check out fares to the Brazilian destination.
When IOC President Jacques Rogge called for the "youth of the world to assemble four years from now in Rio de Janeiro" and the samba and Carnival fuelled preview of the Games of the 2016 Olympiad took centre stage, searches shot up 10 times, hour over hour, from the already elevated interest and close to 20 times higher than any other evening during August.
Overall, searches were up more than 4500% for the day versus the average for August 2012.
Return flights to Rio start from just £481 per person with Cheapflights.co.uk
