The efforts to make Iceland an affordable place for tourists have already brought good results. Lonely Planet, world’s biggest travel books publisher, ranked Iceland as a top ten money-saving vacation destination in 2010.
The country, which was previously known as a highly expensive place to go, is now changing its status to attract more people. The main reason for that is a relatively low local exchange rate which allows travellers and tourists to holiday in Iceland at a much lower price than before.
In other words, Iceland’s weaker currency is your strength: “You’ve always wanted to explore this magical, mysterious land, explore volcanoes and ice caps and bathing in hot springs? Then 2010 is your year,” says the Lonely Planet guide.
The guide is publisher’s 5th annual collection of the world’s best journeys, destinations, and experiences for the coming year. It presents the top ten countries, regions, and cities to visit in several categories, including value for money. And, according to travel experts, Iceland will be the best value vacation destination of 2010.
And while you are there, try not to miss you chance to visit Húsavík, world's most popular whale-watching site. You can stay at small wooden cottages equipped with all facilities and beautiful view.
The country has steadily gained popularity over several decades, but demand has never been higher than now. Icelandair, the largest airline in Iceland, is currently increasing its flights. The airline hopes 2010 will be a busy and exciting year one for its team, as it flies people in from all over Europe, the USA and Canada, providing safe and reliable air travel for all who wish to visit the Land of Fire and Ice.
