Forget whatever you have learnt from Hotel Babylon – the average hotel guest stay is a far more humble affair, according to Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts.
The hotel group which has 7,000 hotel rooms in 35 cities across the world – including six in our own vibrant capital – reports that the most popular item ordered from the in-room dining menu is the perennially popular pizza, whilst champagne and spirits are eschewed for cans of Redbull and bottles of water.
Even the latest film releases are shunned in favour for the 1994 classic, Shawshank Redemption, which is still the most popular choice of in-room entertainment after all these years.
“Despite our extensive room service menu of traditional British dishes, as well as contemporary ideas from around the world, we are surprised to discover that many of our guests still order pizza,” says Simon Mahon, General Manager for Park Plaza County Hall.
The one exception to that rule is the guest’s preferred choice of toiletries. It is the Gilchrist & Soames shower gel offered in some hotel suites which most commonly disappears...
