In honour of ‘Global James Bond Day’ today, a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise (Dr No premiered in London on October 5th, 1962) and in anticipation of the release of the 23rd James Bond adventure Skyfall (general release October 26th), TravelSupermarket has put together a list of the Top Five Bond destinations around the world.

Bob Atkinson, Travel Expert at TravelSupermarket, says: “James Bond films across the decades have always had travel rooted at their core. From the sun-scorched shores and hideaway caves of Khao Phing Kan in Thailand where The Man with the Golden Gun was filmed, to the setting of James Bond’s first outing in Dr No with Ursula Andress on the bleached beaches of Ocho Rios, Jamaica, there has always been a huge amount of buzz around the set locations for each film.

“Not only do the locations provide stunning scenery for the films, they also provide us with some great inspiration on where to go on our next holiday,” he adds.

For each of the 22 Bond films that have graced our screens, there were set teams hard at work finding the right location to capture the intrigue, drama, glamour and suspense that we have all come to know so well.

It isn’t always a sandy beach or tropical forest - in fact in the case of the more modern, gritty films – Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig’s Bond stayed closer to home and stalked the streets of Austria, Lake Como in Italy and the Czech Republic. It’s no surprise then that the filming locations in Skyfall, which is released later this month, include Istanbul, Turkey, Glencoe in the Scottish highlands, and of course London, the home of the MI6 headquarters.
