Ice Hotel

Ice Hotel

Nestled within the Fagaras Mountains on the frozen shores of the glacial Balea Lake, Ice Hotel Romania offers a unique holiday experience at a great value price.

Each year in December, tonnes of pristine ice are harvested from Balea Lake by local workers to create a shimmering organic structure that subtly shifts in design with each re-incarnation before gradually melting away in April.

Ice Hotel Romania, the boutique hideaway 2000m above sea level, is set to open its doors for the 2010/2011 season on 25th December with four new extra rooms.

The Ice Hotel Romania offers 14 rooms, an ice bar and a chapel. Each of the rooms is themed using sculpture and lighting to create a unique style and ambience. Outside temperatures may plummet to -20°C but, inside the hotel, temperatures remain a steady -2°C, with animal skins, woollen blankets and arctic sleeping bags providing cosy comfort.

Adorning the hotel’s super-cool ice bar are hand-carved ice sculptures inspired by leading Romanian artist, Constantin Brancusi. Guests can enjoy warming, colourful vodka cocktails in ice cube glasses before sitting down to experience a 4 course gourmet dinner served on specially carved ice plates.
