The British weather may not be looking like the "indian summer" that we were promised, but at least we have our summer holidays to look forward to. It will soon be time to dust off the suitcase and get it packed to the brim for another year's break in the sun.
Each year, we promise ourselves that we won't go over the top when buying new outfits and travel accessories. Yet, if like me, you can find every reason under the sun to buy that new pair of heels, you'll be looking to pay a bargain price and save money whereever else you can.
So, to help you (and your credit card) out, here's a few tips on how to be suitcase savvy.
1. Buy travelsize
Do you really think you will get through a whole bottle of shampoo and conditioner in a week? The answer is, probably not. Buy travelsize toiletries to last you for the time that you are there, anything bigger and it will take up unnecessary space in your suitcase.
2. Go for Flip Flops
Flip Flops can be bought for as little as £1 and they are likely to be the most used thing you will take with you. High heels are all well and good but if the majority of your day is going to be spent going to and from the sand and sea, heels are a no go and your 10 pairs may not make it out of the suitcase as often as you'd think. Glamorous styles of flip flops can also be found to transform your look from beach to bar.
3. Keep suitcase costs down
Some airports can charge a lot of money to check in heavy suitcases. If you are jetting off for a weekend break travel light with a bag that you can store under your seat. Most airports are pretty generous with the size of the hand luggage bag you are allowed to take on board with you.
Share a suitcase with a friend to bring costs down and to help prevent you packing stuff that you know you won't really need.
