Qype, the consumer reviews site, has revealed the top five most popular takeaways in Edinburgh, with Indian and Turkish eateries topping the list ahead of traditional British fish and chip shops.
Turkish restaurant Hanedan Restaurant led the poll, followed by Indian eateries The Mosque Kitchen, Noor Takeaway and Mother India respectively. The Tailend Restaurant & Fish Bar, in fifth place, was the only British-style takeaway to make the list. The findings come as over a million visitors descend on the city for the annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Hanedan’s “superb food, fantastic service and lovely, cosy environment” has proven a hit with Qype reviewers, one of whom commented,“all the charms are exactly as described and our food was excellent."
Richard Dennys, Qype’s Chief Marketing Officer, said: “This is a welcomed surprise to consumer dining. It’s also great to see an appreciation for greater diversity among Edinburgh diners.
"With festival-goers flocking to Edinburgh this month, the Qype app will be especially invaluable to those seeking honest advice on the best family attractions, food, drink and local services” he says.
