Downton Abbey has certainly proved popular

If you're a fan of Downton Abbey, then this is most certainly the event for you.

As part of a series of talks by female guest speakers, at The Vineyard, the Downton event will be a lunch hosted by Lady Carnarvon, Countess of Highclere Castle (the estate in which Downton is set) and Daniel Galmiche (head chef at The Vineyard).

Drawing on a rich archive of personal records, including diaries, letters, and photographs, Highclere Castle’s current Countess, Lady Fiona Carnarvon, has written a compelling history of an incredible woman who devoted herself to husband, home and country.

Everything that made Downton Abbey such a hit is there - romance, tragedy, high-society and intrigue along with the real-life heroics of Lady Almina as she converted Highclere Castle into a fully functioning hospital for convalescing soldiers during World War I.

Establishing herself as a brave and tenacious leader, Lady Almina’s holistic approach to nursing was ahead of her time and endures today. Lady Carnarvon will talk about the ‘Real Downton Abbey’ and how life at Highclere Castle has changed over the past hundred years.

The event is on 14th May and includes a fabulous three course lunch (cooked by Daniel Galmiche, one of the UK’s leading chefs) with matching wines at The Vineyard. Tickets are £60 per person, tickets and enquiries to The Vineyard at Stockcross 01635 898646;   http://www.the-vineyard.co.uk/
