Snoozy in-flight safety videos are a bore and no traveller really likes to watch the safety videos before take-off (who wants to think about crashing even before you’ve got off the ground?!) but Air New Zealand is putting a whole new star-studded spin to get passengers more focused.
Just as you thought the airline had tired itself out with the relentlessly silly, but all-the-more attention-grabbing, in-flight safety videos, its latest edition to the video vault is another humorous and informative celeb-fest.
The airline’s safety manual is brought to life in its newest, hand-sketched, in-flight video featuring animated versions of top celebrities including Modern Family’s Ed O’Neill and New Zealand-born actress Melanie Lynskey of Two and a Half Men taking you through the dos and don’ts of safety onboard.
“It’s great to be able to deliver our safety messages in an engaging, informative way that also makes people smile.”
Also featured are various cameo appearances from well-known personalities, including world leaders like United States President Barack Obama and Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, all
The video will be progressively rolled out onboard all international and domestic jet flights from early July, in time for travellers coming to London for the Olympics.
Air New Zealand’s previous flight videos, featuring celebs like Lindsay Lohan and Richard Simmons, have gained huge popularity for being unique and quirky. The new version follows this kitschy style, once more, but infuses a whole lot more of New Zealand pride with the country’s rugby team, the All Blacks, including Captain Richie McCaw, taking part.
Chris Myers, Air New Zealand’s general manager in Europe, said: “We’ve previously featured body-painted airline staff, All Blacks and fitness guru Richard Simmons in our videos which have attracted more than 20 million views online.
“This time, we’re taking the opportunity to highlight the global reach of our business and to recognise world events and celebrities in a uniquely Air New Zealand way. That’s why customers will see world leaders who feature in election processes this year, Olympians competing to prove they are the best in the world, our All Black Captain and A-listers who are big in their markets today,” he added.
“It’s great to be able to deliver our safety messages in an engaging, informative way that also makes people smile.”
The video also includes a mention of Obama’s support of gay marriage legislation and a shout-out from rapper Snoop Dogg.
There are many more cameos, but we’ll let you see them for yourself because Air New Zealand is offering a trip around the world to one lucky viewer who can spot them all.
If you're up for the challenge see if you can spot all the big names in the video (below) and let us know in the comments what you think of the airline’s animated approach.
