Iceland

In recent weeks a great deal of media coverage has been devoted to the volcanic activity at the Eyjafjallajökull glacier in southern Iceland.

The Icelandic Tourist Board would like to reassure travellers that although (at the time of writing) this activity continues, its effects on day-to-day life in Iceland and on the experiences visitors can expect when they come to our country are negligible.

Eyjafjallajökull is around 75 miles east of Iceland’s capital Reykjavik, and only a very small rural area in the immediate vicinity of the volcano is affected by ash fall.

Iceland’s popular tourism attractions, such as the well-known ‘Golden Circle’ sites of Gullfoss, the Geyser geothermal area and Thingvellir National Park, are completely unaffected by the volcanic activity and can be enjoyed as normal  -  as can Reykjavik itself.

We look forward to welcoming travellers to The Land of Ice & Fire this summer!
