Crystal clear ocean, azure blue skies and rich, golden beaches - Barbados is a gem of the Caribbean destinations. It's charming, relaxed atmosphere is naturally studded by the friendliness of its people and its spirit of quiet adventure. Barbados is the ideal place for an unforgettable island break.
A haven for those seeking out the finest sun-kissed beaches, and hours of pure relaxation. And yet, when it comes to things to do in Barbados, there is so much more. Glenroy Marshall, number one concierge host at the award-winning Lone Star Hotel and Restaurant in Barbados recommends his top 5 favourite things to do and places to visit in Barbados.
“There’s something for everyone on Barbados. From sun-drenched beaches to eco tours. High-energy water sports and colourful cultural festivals. Luxury shopping, sunset catamaran cruises and fine culinary experiences. Families or couples. The island offers a wide choice of activities, tranquillity and incredible rum!”
In terms of places to eat, there is no shortage of restaurants serving local Caribbean dishes, seafood and European cuisine. At Lone Star, our restaurant is renowned for its idyllic setting, buzzy yet laid-back atmosphere and celebrity clientele. We’re also the only restaurant where you don’t just get a view of the beach, you get to dine on it. The menu combines fusion fare of European food with Caribbean influences. There are also wood-fired pizzas and a children’s menu, so it’s a place for the whole family to share in. There’s also a host of other choices including The Cliff. This is listed as one of the best restaurants in the world. The interior, food and atmosphere certainly lives up to expectations. Definitely not to be missed. Alternatively try Cin Cin By The Sea. The ambience here is one of the best in Barbados. The menu is great and there are a fabulous range of dishes to choose from – you’ll find something here for every taste and it’s priced just right. Cin Cin serves an amazing Sunday lunch, where the live music is always good.
When it comes to beaches you really are spoilt for choice. Mullins Beach is perhaps the most famous and Gibbes Beach is another one of my top tips. It’s not very commercialised, has calm water and amazing views. Accra Beach is certainly the liveliest and Enterprise Beach is a favourite of the locals. As Lone Star is set on the beach, our guests are lucky that they only have to step out of bed and walk a few paces before getting sand between their toes!
Eco Tours are becoming more and more popular. Visitors to the island can check out the local habitat on walking tours or take a bus tour. You’ll see amazing tropical wildlife or can visit an underground cave https://barbados.org/tours/barbados_eco_tours.htm#.Wv7Eji-ZO8U. Lone Star guests are often treated to the sight of turtles, who inhabit the beach next to the Hotel. Quite incredible.
It may also be worth booking in a sunset sailing trip on one of the catamaran tours. Enjoy a swim in the beautiful sea and then dinner as the sun goes down. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and popular with romance seekers!
There’s also lots of historical tours and culture to experience here – from the Museum of Parliament to Barbados Historical Society. And of course, there’s plenty of rum experiences with a number of distilleries to visit. Always end your tour at our Star Bar – where our mixologists can blend you our very own Rum Cocktail. Somehow one always leads to another!
