For the first time, the organisation - which is part of GCHQ - will be running TV adverts as part of a major campaign after last year's Christmas shopping period saw an average loss of £775 per incident.

Lindy Cameron - chief executive of the NCSC - said: "Scammers stole millions from internet shoppers last Christmas - but by following our advice, you can protect yourself from the majority of their crimes.

"We hope the Cyber Aware campaign helps people to shop confidently online and enjoy their Christmas."

As reported by the BBC, the NCSC is working on a campaign in collaboration with the Home Office, the Cabinet Office and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Alongside a website, there will be a radio and television ad campaign running up to Christmas Eve (24.12.20) featuring six essential behaviours the organisation advises to protect your online devices and accounts.

These include using a "strong and separate" password for your email account, as well as "strong" passwords made up of "three random words".

They recommended saving passwords in your browser, and turning on two-factor authentication.

NCSC also recommends updating your devices and apps, and backing up your data.
