The Metropolitan Police on Twitter has warned people who are thinking about taking their new 'hoverboads' for a spin on the roads, that it is in fact illegal to do so.
Apparently, these self-balancing scooters do not meet the legal requirement to be safely used among other vehicles and modes of transport currently on the road.
The only place you can legally use your hoverboard is in your own backyard or on private land, states the Segway guidance from the Department for Transport.
These new hoverboards evolved from the larger Segway devices that often includes a steering. Now, the smaller, hands-free version is growing in popularity, and many celebrities have been spotted giving them a try.
